Almost always, clockwise to tighten, counter clockwise to loosen. Every once in a while you will come across a left hand thread one, but rarely.
Turn it counterclockwise to remove it.
Loosen the lock nut a few turns. Use a flat screw driver to turn the adjustment screw in the middle of the lock nut. Turn the screw CCW (in the direction the decrease play arrow points) until you feel resistance, turn it back the opposite direction a quarter turn and then turn the lock nut until its tight. This is what I read for my 2000 Rancher ES in the owners manual, but I used it on my 85 fourtrax.
Righty tighty, lefty loosy.
All nuts and bolts are left hand turns.. IE anticlockwise
If there are any threads exposed, compare them to a regulat bolt and nut. Follow the angle of the threads and position the bolt in your hand so the threads are similiar. Turn your nut, there is your answer. lefty loosey righty tighty
Determine if it is LEFT or RIGHT hand thread, Do this by, Start motor and see which way fan turns, The fan will always turn in the direction that you need to turn the nut. If top goes toward left side of truck then turn the nut toward the left. and other for right. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, They make A special tool for removing the nut.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, If you have a air hammer, You can use it to turn the nut by putting it on the nut toward the side you want the nut to turn and hammer it with the tool. ,,,,,,,,, Use the tool to lightly snug the nut when you put on the new clutch, You do not have to tighten it a lot.
You place the wrench end over the nut and turn in a clockwise direction to tighten it or the opposite to loosen it.
Lefty loosey, righty tighty.
As you face the engine, you need to turn the nut in a counter-clockwise direction.
any saw is the opposite of the way the blade spins!
Looking at the fan from the front you would turn it counter clock wise to remove it. You will probably need to hold the pulley from turning also.
Remember "righty tighty, lefty loosy" :) or to the right it tightens the screw to the left it loosens it up.
