The one in 1990 started because Iraq invaded Kuwait. Saddam did so because of suspicions against Kuwait taking Iraqi oil. The main reason though was because Kuwait didn't lower their oil selling prices (where Iraq would benefit from). Hussein needed this to happen to earn money fast to pay their debts to Western countries (mainly USA) for supporting him in the invasion of Iran in the 1980's. That's basically it.
Because Irak invated kuwait. There is really nogood reason why to start a war. The human kind was created with a brain and siting abilities we should be able to sit and reason. Not like the animal kingdom that act by instincts.
The Persian Gulf War (1990-1991) was fought against the Iraqi forces that invaded and occupied Kuwait, which lies between Iraq
and the Persian Gulf. Iraq's leader, Saddam Hussein, believed
that he could annex Kuwait on the pretexts that a) it was properly Iraqi territory or that b) Kuwait was drilling into Iraqi oil fields.
Since Kuwait's military was no match for Iraq, it was soon overpowered. The US and other countries assembled forces in Saudi Arabia to prevent further attacks (Operation Desert Shield). After Hussein ignored calls by the UN and other countries to withdraw, a coordinated attack was ordered in January, 1991 (Operation Desert Storm). In less than 6 weeks, the coalition forces defeated the Iraqi forces in Kuwait while also doing substantial damage to Iraq's defenses. Some of the Iraqi army was allowed to escape, and unfortunately they set fire to hundreds of Kuwaiti oil wells as they left.
