multi switch on steering coloum is wearing out
It needs a new multi-function switch, or ear plugs.
probably have a bad relay, that was my problem.. Are your turn signals not working, but your hazards lights are? and if so, do you hear a constant clicking sound, like your turn signal is turned on? Does the clicking sound go away when you hit the brakes? It is the relay.
broken turn signal switch assemblyreplace it
The cause for a turn signal flasher to keep clicking on a 1999 GMC Jimmy is a bad flasher unit. Replacing this with a new flasher unit should solve this problem.
An intermittent connection would be a connection that is not constant. For example, if you have a light in your house that you have turned on and it flickers on and of, that would be intermittent, not constant light.
I have the same problem basically, after looking at the schematic, etc., the only thing I came up with is that the whole turn signal sub assembly must be replaced. I removed the turn signal fuse and its stops, which coincides with the schematic. If the ignition is turned on, the clicking from the flasher will sound, if off, it will not. I hope this helps, replacing the turn signal assembly is not easy, and you should get a manual from an auto parts.
Your flasher relay box may need to be replaced, but could also be an electrical short.
The sound you are hearing is a relay clicking on and off. If your turn signals work fine then its probably not that one. While you can hear the clicking remove the relays one by one until the sound stops and that will tell you which system is affected. In my case the low and intermittent setting for my wipers did not work and the switch was turned on without my noticing it so the wiper relay clicked constantly without the wipers going. I did not realize that it was the problem until I bumped the switch into the proper off position and the sound stopped.
Flasher is under the dash, drivers side, follow the clicking sound the signal makes when turned on. That sound comes from the flasher. If signal is staying on it could be you have a bulb or two out. Check your signal lights before replacing the flasher.
The most common cause is the multi-function switch. This is the switch that operates the turn signals, wipers, head light dimmer, and cruise. Everytime the switch is used, a little bit of metal is worn off the contacts. These metal particles become impregnated in the dialectric grease inside the switch. Over time these metal particles build up until there is enough to short out the switch. Some people even notice smoke coming from the steering column. There are two ways to fix the problem. 1) The cheap way, disassemble the switch clean it out thoroughly with contact cleaner. Add new dialectric grease, then reassemble. 2) The easy way, buy a new switch for $150.00 USD, and replace the old one. I would asume you are hearing this while turning only and not while going straight? The clicking may be intermittent or steady, and can occur reqardless of going straight or turning.
The "park" signal on the wiper motor is off. The wipers should stay off their cradles about an inch or so. If the ignition key is turned off during an intermittent wipe, the blades may stay at some position on the windshield. They'll return as soon as the next cycle comes up after the ignition is turned on. If they do not behave this way, you likely have a bad wiper motor assembly, which has the control circuit that parks the blades.
Replace the switch under the hazard button on the dash.
