A qualified locksmith can often do that for you. They have some rather clever tools for just such a situation. After disconecting you battery. If you remove the steering wheel cover I believe it is 4 screws. Then if you look at the bottom of the steering wheel near the ignition you should see a little button/hole. you need a very small screwdriver or pen/pencil to push this button. Push it and turn the key to the on position. It should come out farly easily. Once you have it out. hold the outside part and while watching the end oppisit the key end turn the key until the other end lines up as to appear to be able to slide apart easily. then that same button you pushed eariler you need to pull out carefully. when it is out the outside and inside of the ingition should slid apart easily and you should be able to see the broken part of the key and push it out using a small knife or something tine but hard. It sounds hard but it really isn't just make sure you keep every thing lined up. so it goes back together easily.
You will need to remove the retaining ring at the top of your 2003 Kia ignition cylinder. The ignition cylinder will slide out. Remove the wiring harness from the back of the ignition cylinder.
A locksmith may be able to remove the broke key and make a new one. Or just replace the ignition.
I broke my key in the ignition and cant get it out. My only option I can see, is to replace to tumbler. How do I remove it?
Gum maybe?? or tweaser??
Well, it sounds like the chip that is in your key may have broke or got stuck on a part of the ignition. I had that problem. This happened not long after I had had to have the ignition replaced?!?
You broke it.
Flush the lock with a lubricant. Use the handle of the broken key as a guide. Find a thin wire and stiff it along the sides of the broken key part. Hold the wire in place and remove the part.
i broke the key off in the ignition. got it out and got a new key. now when i try to hook up battery it trys to start even with the run switch off.
yes you do have to remove lock cylinder:first turn it to the off position and then under column is a hole.Take a pick or coathanger ,bend it straight to go inside hole and press against cylinder release button and pull cylinder out
If you can reach the broken key with a pair of needle nose pliers, you may be able to pull it out. Otherwise, it is a job for a professional locksmith.
your best bet is to have a locksmith come and remove it this will avoid any damage to the locking mechanism and save you from replacing your lock
If the key is still in the ignition, leave it there! Use your spare key to open and lock the doors as you continue to drive it. Get it to a reliable mechanic. He/she will remove the entire ignition and have a duplicate key made. If you try to repair it yourself, you may wind up having to re-key the entire vehicle and this can be much more expensive. Good luck.
