its probably the neutral saftey switch. Had same problem on a 1998 cherokee. Came up code 1899 on my scanner. It only missed in drive not in reverse or park, under load.
A basic tune-up would involve replacing the spark plugs and possibly the plug wires. The fuel filter may be replaced and all fluid levels checked. Before electronic ignition systems it also meant to replace the points, rotor, condenser, and inspecting the distributor cap.A basic tune-up would involve replacing the spark plugs and possibly the plug wires. rotor button is the little gadget inside distributer cap attached to the distributor shaft this spins when engine is turning over, distributing the spark to each plug at the right time
Hi have the same trouble with mine been told to replace the Dist Module also known as halleffect sensor Hope this helps Mike
Camshaft sensor? Not if you have a distributor. Losing spark on acceleration is easy though. On acceleration, you increase pressure in the cylinders and thus increase the resistance across the plug gap. This, in addition to the resistance is too much resistance for the maximum output voltage produced by the coil, so you've got the following possibilities: 1- worn plugs 2- old plug wires 3- weak ignition coil 4- but less likely, eroded distributor cap and rotor All of these parts will be replaced during a proper tune-up, so just do a tune-up and you'll be OK.
I own a 2006 3.7L grand Cherokee and my tune up consists of spark pug replacements (6) for me, differential fluid change, ATF fluid change (no flush), and PCV. If you have a transfer case you will need to change that as well. good luck!
If you have spark at all but one plug, the problem is with that plug, wire, cap or rotor.
change distributor cap and rotor
Check the coil and replace if bad. Should fix the problem.
You don't. It has a D.I.S. ignition system and has no distributor or rotor. There are three coils mounted over spark plugs under coil pack cover (center top of motor) Each coil fires 2 pistons. They are not replaced as a tune up item. They are only replaced if faulty. Spark plugs should be replaced every 15,000 miles.
Pull out a spark plug, rest it on a piece of metal under the hood, have someone crank the engine, and see if it sparks. If not, check for a spark at your ignition coil by doing the same thing. If you still have no spark, check your distributer cap and rotor, they may need replaced, or the whole distributer may need replaced. Could be spark in the motor, or the distributor and rotor need to be replaced.
check your cap rotor and wires, these are often over looked
Ok, I have figured it out. The coil is putting off what looks to be a good spark, but It is not strong enough to go through the gap between the cap and rotor to get back to the wires. I replaced it and it works!!
did you replaced spark plug also distributor cap and rotor???
try to get a new ignition rotor
You distributor cap and rotor should also be replaced. If still no spark. check the compression on the low cylinders to see if you have good compression.
Also when you try to give the car more gas. It starts to run very rough.
