I had the same noise on my 1997 Volvo 850. My noise was from the rear engine mount( behind the passenger front tire behind the wheel well cover). The part should cost about $60. Good Luck. Derek Check for a cracked strut mount. Replacement is simple, but the parts can be costly.
if it is making a loud knocking noise it is about to go out If when you put it in to gear, it jumps in to it and the car starts to move instantly then the converter may be shot.
I just had this replaced today... I will be more then happy to explain this as best I can hoping you still check this. My front right sway bar bushing was bad making a weird noise only on rough roads, bumps or even if I push the car down on that side. It sounded like rattle mixed with a clunking noise on rough roads. Example...drive through a parking lot that has rough surfaces sewers drains...stuff like that. Depending which bushing is bad the sound will come to that direction.... A sway bar bushing is part of the suspension incase you were wondering. So it sounds like a mix of rattling and clunk. Not expensive to replace, was $72 but since he saw I had cash, he only charged me $60. Then again, I have a awesome mechanic. Hope this helps.
I had a very similar problem with my 1996 Nissan truck. New plugs, wires, distributor and rotor only partly solved the problem. Then I replaced the O2 sensor and the probelm disappeared completely. Had 130K miles on the truck when replaced and the O2 sensor was shot.
remove hub caps , loosen axle nut first ( all b4 u jack it up ) , jack it up , take the tire off ,remove brake caliper ,remove brake rotor , remove the axle hub nut ,unbolt the assembly from the steering knuckle & carefully tap it out of the knuckle bore, you'll need a 13ml wrench with 12 point box end to remove the 3 bolts that hold the wheel bearing in , then if the axle sticks in the hub splines push it out of the hub with a puller ,once the hub & bearing assembly has been removed the axle shaft can be pulled straight out of the housing .
Buick makes a clunking sound from trans area when accelerating.
A clunking sound when you accelerate or decelerate.
A clunking noise when shifting gears on a K1500 automatic transmission, might mean a problem with the drive axle or drive shaft. Check all U-Joints to make sure they are working properly.
If it's a type of clunking noise, check your gearbox. If it's some kind of rattling, check your hubcaps.
One clunk when accelerating (but now repeated clunks) and another when braking can be caused by broken motor mounts.
Vibrating when accelerating.. clunking when hitting gas. Typical front wheel drive bad CV joint signs.
Clunking.
sounds like your brake calipers could be sticking.after a short run feel your rim if it seems overly hot that's probaly what it is
"Under the car" covers a large area. Directly under the driver's seat you find the universal joints.
It can if it is really bad. Try not to drive it and have someone who is mechanically inclined check it out, it could be a number of things.
2003 Saturn Ion clunking when breaking
