How long do the symptoms of gout last?

Gout initially only lasts a few days, and can be treated with Colchicine, and or, anti inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen, or a short course of Cortico Steroids in severe cases. However, if left untreated, once the initial attacks subside, it can become much more severe, despite many years of respite, and attacks can, and will last longer. In my own case, this has happened to me, and the current attack I am having, has lasted 6 months, and is leaving me crippled and in severe pain most of the time. It is now attacking both big toes, and one ankle. I would recommend anyone who has an attack, even a small one, to seek medical intervention early to get their Uric acid levels lowered, in order to prevent ending up like me. Wait until the attack has subsided, as some of the drugs used to lower Uric acid levels, can make an attack worse, and you may have to take small amounts of Colchicine, or anti inflammatory drugs at first during your first few months of treatment. I hope this helps some of you, and I wish fellow sufferers the best of luck with a cure. Best regards, Gordon.
