In 1891 how many rules where there in basketball?
There didn't used to be a 24-second shot clock, which didn't come until Oct. 30, 1954. There didn't used to be the 3 seconds in the key rule, where a player can stay under the goal in the paint for as long as they want. Now we have the 3 second rule. There didn't used to be goaltending, where a player will pull the ball off the rim before letting it go in or fall off the rim. Now if a player does this the ref will give the team the points, if a player on the offensive team pulls down the ball while on the rim, they call offensive interference or basket interference, and it will cost them possession of the ball. Goaltending became a violation in 1944, and basket interference in 1958. People could not shoot after dribbling, that was changed in 1909. If a defensive player set his feet in the restriction zone (the small arc under the goal) and the offensive player runs into him, the defensive player will be called for a blocking foul, because he/she was behind the restriction zone, that rule was established in the NBA in 1997.

Zone defense is when you set up each man to play a particular area of the field. Man to man is just that, playing man against man. Zone defense basically calls for each defender to not leave their area, even if a man they happened to be guarding at one moment leaves that area.

Is Wilt Chamberlain better than Shaq?
== == There is no doubt that Shaq would outmuscle Wilt. Shaq weighs much more, and would easily outmuscle anyone. No one in the history of the NBA has stood their ground against Shaq, and no one ever will. If he faced Wilt, there might be a little opposition, but Shaq would still overpower him.
Yes Shaq dominated in a lot tougher era of basketball, and with a lot bigger people. Wilt's only competition was bill russell(a great player) who was only 6-9. Shaq played against David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Hakeem Olajuwan, Tim Duncan, and still dominated. Shaq is plain and simple to strong. Nate Thurmond, Walt Bellamy, Wes Unseld, Bob Lanier, Wayne Embry, Kareem, and a few others might dispute that Wilt's only competition was Russell. ANSWER: Not only did Wilt play against some great players, he played against them MORE OFTEN than Shaq because there were fewer teams then. Wilt bench-pressed over 400 pounds with a minimum of weight-lifting. Former team-mate Tommy Hawkins called Wilt the strongest man on Earth. On the night Shaq scored 61 points he did so at will to show his greatness. HOWEVER, he could go no higher becasue he petered out. ONLY Wilt had the incredible strength and STAMINA to take 63 shots in a game and score 100 points.

What are various positions on a basketball team?
There are 5 positions on a basketball team- PG, SG, SF, PF, and C.
(Some teams organize their positions differently or have them on different spots on the floor, but the positions are generally the same)
PG: Point Guard (Position 1) The Point Guard is the player who brings the ball up the floor on offense. They will usually stand near the top of the 3-point line. Point Gaurds have to be fast, have good ball control and passes (To bring the ball up the floor and start the offense) and be able to lead the team.
SG: Shooting Guard (Position 2) The Shooting Gaurd is the other player who helps bring the ball up the court on offense, often passing the ball in from out-of-bounds to the PG and supporting them in bringing the ball up. Most offenses have the SG standing near the top of the 3-point line, opposite to the PG. Shooting Guards need the same skills as the PGs, but it also helps if they have a good shot, because these are usually the players who shoot 3-point shots.
SF: Small Forward (Position 3) The most flexible position. Small Forwards are sometimes referred to as the "wing" player, because they usually stand by the 3-point line, nearer the baseline. They need to be able to shoot 3-pointers and pass- SFs are the player that typically feeds the ball to the post players.
PF: Power Forward (Position 4) Another "Wing" position. Power Forwards are either on the 3-point line opposite to the SF, or down low on the block, to support the Center close to the basket. Power Forwards need to help the Center rebound the ball, so it helps if they have some size as well as a short/midrange shot.
C: Center (Position 5) Centers are the biggest players on the floor, just going by size. Centers stand in or around the key, and either get the ball and try to post up their defender and get a close-range shot, or get the rebound and put the ball back in the basket. Centers are notorious for having very little dribbling or shooting skills, but make up for it with their size.
Sorry for the long answer.
