Biomes

Ecosystems can be small-scale, covering a small area (such as a pond) or large-scale covering a large area (such as a tropical rainforest).

The world is divided up into ten major ecosystems. These large-scale ecosystems are called fxg.

Both tundras and deserts are characterized by extreme temperatures and limited vegetation, but they differ in terms of precipitation patterns. Tundras are cold with low precipitation, while deserts are hot with very low precipitation. Tundras have a layer of permafrost beneath the surface, while deserts have sandy or rocky terrain.

Desert and tundra regions are alike in that they both have extreme climates with harsh conditions, such as low precipitation and limited vegetation. Both regions also experience temperature extremes, with deserts being very hot and tundras very cold. Additionally, they have unique plant and animal adaptations to survive in these challenging environments.

"African" is not a type of biome. Africa is a continent - a geographical location. It is also a very big place with varying latitudes, meaning there are a variety of biomes in Africa; including desert, tropical rainforest, savanna, chaparral and temperate grassland.

A desert is a dry barren region that is often sandy and lacks trees. Deserts receive minimal precipitation and have extreme temperature variations between day and night. The lack of vegetation is due to the harsh environmental conditions.

These biomes are typically distributed across different continents and regions, with examples including the Amazon River in South America, the Great Lakes in North America, and Lake Baikal in Russia.

Similar biomes found in different locations are typically the result of similar environmental conditions, such as climate, topography, and soil type, shaping the vegetation and animal life. Over time, plant and animal species in different regions may evolve similar adaptations in response to these shared environmental factors, leading to the presence of similar biomes in geographically distant locations.

There is no specific biome common to all continents (Antarctica is special).

They are often home to unique plant and animal species adapted to the harsh conditions. Mountain environments also play a crucial role in regulating global climate patterns and providing freshwater resources.

Currents can erode or deposit sediment, shaping the land. They can also affect coastal ecosystems by influencing nutrient distribution and temperature. Strong currents can cause coastal erosion, while weaker currents may deposit sediment, leading to land formation.
