What is the average teperature for Brazil in January?

Well, i can only answer for a set amount of days. On the 19th of June it is 28 degrees celsius and the same for the day after.
Most of Brazil lays in the tropical zone, so it´s easy to find temperatures from 20°C to nearly 40ºC (68F to 104F) in a big part of the country; in places near the rainforest, temperatures are just as high and the wheather it´s very moist. In the center of the country (like in the Capital Brasilia), they have a dry wheather.

In the south (especially the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in the border with Argentina and Uruguay), they have all 4 seasons very well defined - in the winter, you can find temperatures from -5ºC to 15ºC (23F to 59F) and, in the summer, from 17º to 35ºC (60F to 97F). Snow is only frequent in a couple of high places (such as Gramado, Canela and São José dos Ausentes, all in hilltops.)

Basically, the more to the north, the warmer it gets. From Rio to the north, in the coast, you can enjoy every day of the year in the beach.
