However it has also increased in its population because of this reason, because that people that live in favela's mostly moved down from the north of Brazil to the south (business district) looking for work and building their homes out of scrap metal and material. Brazil has also grown in wealth due to them exporting things like soybeans, coffee and other manufacturing goods; they also export cars and famously known brands like Pepsi.

The classification of the countries in First, Second and Third World was related to the geopolitical nature of the world as of the existence of the Soviet Union. It is for the most part not used nowadays in serious International Relations discussions since our geopolitical view of the world has evolved.

If a third-world country refers to a nation with weak political systems and economy, Brazil is far from falling into such category. It is one of the world's greatest democracies and the 8th economy in the planet. Improvements in national and foreign policy, specially in the past decade or so, have brought in 30 mil people into the middle class category and elevated millions that were considered poor.
