Your fish swims upside down and spins when swimming?

well, I'm a beginner. I have had a male betta in a 5lt jar for 2 months and added an opaline/blue gourami to it, of almost the same size.

The same day, the gourami suddenly was super swift, swam around like a maniac, spurted out immense bubbles, dug into the betta's well-established nest. While doing this, it would fall towards the bottom upside down and then get back to life with a repeat action (of the above). We loved these stunts. All this while, the betta would stay to a corner on the surface. And then the gourami lay between the pebbles. After say about 5 minutes, I tried moving (I could only think that it was asleep) but it had passed out. And my betta was relatively more active after the other was removed.

What do you use to turn a fried egg over?

You get a saucepan and place a slice of lard on it. Put it on top of a gas top and let the lard melt. When it has melted, crack open the egg and try and get it all in one spot instead of all over the saucepan (this normally doesn't happen for me!). Then get a spatular and push gently round the sides of the egg as it fries. Then when the yoke has all gone orange/yellow and all the liquid has turned white, you use the spatular to take it off the saucepan and then it is ready to eat!

There you have it!

How do you clean a fish tank?

Most tap water is "clean" enough for the fish. You can drink it, but in many cases it has a lot of chlorine in it as a result of the purification process used by most water suppliers. All that one really has to do to make it safe for use with a betta is to let is sit out for a few days. But don't put it in a bottle. Use a bucket or other container with a lot of surface area (to facilitate the air exchange that will let the chlorine out). This is standard practice for those who prepare water for use in home fresh water aquariums. It usually isn't necessary to put it through a lot of fancy filtration. The municipal water company already did that. Make a quick call to your local aquarium supply store or do a bit of searching on the web. There is also the old school approach: go to a library or a book store and look in a book.

How can you tell for a Oranda calico fantail and a goldfish fantail if it is a boy or a girl?

The easiest way to tell the difference is that the males may get what are called breeding stars on their gill plates during breeding season. The breeding stars look like small white bumps.

This is not always the case though, and sometimes the only way you know is by seeing the female drop eggs, or the male fertilizing the eggs.

Will your fish die if you overfeed them once?

Fish can not be overfed. They stop eating when they have had enough. What is meant by "overfeeding" is putting more food in a tank than a fish can eat. If this food is left in the tank, it will go rotten and poison the water. That poison is what kills the fish. If you follow the rules your fish should never get sick. The basic rules for keeping fish successfully are :- 1 inch of fish needs at least 1 gallon of water. :- Every tank needs a permanently running cycled filter. :- Every tank need at least 50% of its water replaced every week.. If you follow the above rules and keep your Betta at around 78F your fish will stand a chance of surviving. If you fail in any of them I can guarantee that your fish will be constantly getting sick.

What is the most common name for a goldfish?

Fish that get along with pop-eyed goldfish?

Any other kind of goldfish can go, however, be cautious about the amount in the tank. Goldfish are hearty, but notoriously sloppy. The only other kind of fish that would really go with a Goldfish, and actually survive, would be a pleco or a hearty catfish. They eat all the junk left over by Goldfishes and can actually help maintain the tank (water clarity, gravel, longer lasting filters).

What water do you use for a fish in a bowl?

Only in certain parts of certain countries. Different countries and states use different chemicals to purify water, so ask your local petstore if your area's water safe. Here in South Africa we can use tap water for animals, since the water is only purified with semi-harmless chemicals. But this answer will be region-specific.

Can betta fish live alone?

Their fins will grow back into their first luscious state after a period of 8 months. It may take longer if they are not kept in good condition (clean tank water ((change every other day)), peace, and good food).

What is the best pH level for goldfish?

A good pH range for goldfish is 7.2 to 7.6 If it is higher than this, it will shorten your goldfish's lifespan dramatically, and can irritate his slime coat, which is how they fight off diseases. Also ammonia thrives in harder water, so they can get gill burn, and other nasty things that kill them.

Do tropical fish need soft or hard water to survive in an aquarium?

Different species need different water parameters. Soft water suits just about all the South American Tropicals like Neons, and other tetras, Angelfish and other Amazonian cichlids, Corydoras and other Amazonian catfish. African cichlids will not survive in soft water.

How many babies can a goldfish have at once?

What is the function of the anal fin?

A fish's fins have many functions. Fish have several fins, and what they do with them depends on their species. Some fins are used purely for decoration or to attract a mate, but most have more practical functions. Generally, the fish's tail (caudal fin) is used for propulsion and steering.

The dorsal fin can be used to control height in the water and steering.

The fins on the sides of the body are used to balance the fish, for propulsion, for steering and paddling.

The pectoral fins on the fish's underside are used for steering.

The anal fin in the male livebearer is modified for use during internal fertilisation - it becomes a penis-like organ called a gonopodium.

If tadpoles live with goldfish will the goldfish eat them?

I had several small tadpoles in a tank- each less than 1/2 ich long. I added 2 goldfish who promptly ate all the tadpoles. One goldfish died, the other thrived. I suspect the one goldfish died from overeating but I can't rule out parasites, bacteria or other problems from the tadpoles although I would have expected the other to get ill as well. I guess the one certain thing is that if you like the tadpoles, don't add goldfish. S.

Do goldfish need direct sunlight?

When someone asks a question it is wrong to call them stupid. They are asking for a reason.

Anyway, yes goldfish can live in water that has sunlight coming into it. You must offer them shade as well. Two problems with direct sunlight is algae and water temperature. Direct sunlight can raise water temps considerably depending on the intensity and the size of the pond or tank etc. Direct sunlight can also cause algae blooms.

Why does goldfish have no energy?

I suppose that your goldfish is not eating enough. If you are taking care of several other goldfish in the same time, are you making sure that goldfish is getting his own share, or if the bigger fish are all stealing it?

I suggest that you examine them carefully when you feed your goldfish, and make sure the goldfish gets his own share (or she, whatever).

How much does a twenty gallon fish tank cost?

Impossible to say there are too many variables, for example what stand will it be on, how wide is the tank, how deep from front to back, is it square, is it another shape, all need to be considered as obv water is a fluid and has now pre defined height etc

The only way you will find out is get your tape measure out and measure it including stand

How do you know if a goldfish are mating?

If your fish are going to mate, this will typically begin when the female is full of eggs. The male will chase her and poke his head against her side and belly in an attempt to get her to release eggs. If she does, the male will then release what is called milt in an attempt to fertilize the eggs.

Unless you have plenty of room to raise the fry, you can leave the eggs in the tank for a day as the fish will eat them, and any eggs remaining should be removed as unfertilized eggs will grow fungus.

If you have the room to raise the fry, then you need to remove as many eggs as you can to a small dish with tank water; there is no need to remove the goldfish from their tank.

Can goldfish eat rice?

Yes gold fish would eat bread crumbs unless your gold fish is weird it won't but some fish eat bread crumbs

Size of tank for two goldfish?

between 5-10 gallons per inch of fish.

A single adult goldfish needs 20 gallons and another 10 gallons per addional goldfish (so two goldfish need about 30 gallons but something between 25-35 gals would be good). As babies they one can survive in a 10 or 15 gal but the tank should be upgraded as soon as possible.
