How long can fish survive without an air pump?

I wouldn't suggest getting the guppy in the first place. It's not like the fish will die within hours, but a week without an air pump and the fish will either be very unhealthy or most likely die. You can probably find a way to replicate an air pump, such as putting a vacuum cleaner in there and having it blow out, but that would not be very good either. It completely depends on how long the air pump will be out and how large the tank is along with how many fish are in there. My guess though is about 3 days at the least.

Do goldfish live well with other fish?

Not always. Goldfish are largely peaceful, but... They have ravenous appetites and eat aggressively, so tankmates may not get enough food and/or may get hurt in the process. They foul a tank with copious amounts of waste (poop), so tankmates may not be able to survive the more toxic environment. They get big, so tankmates and decorations may get broken or injured. All of these conditions can be mitigated with planning and proper care and you can enjoy your goldfish for years and years (they can live up to 25 years with a reported world record of 41).

Does the amount of water in a tank depend on the size of the goldfish?

Goldfish grow to around 10 inches under normal circumstances Putting them in a container that is too small for them is not only cruel it is inhumane. Goldfish Bowls were used to contain Goldfish in the 1800s. One can excuse people for doing that in those days because they were ignorant and not well educated. Now there is no excuse for people using tiny containers to house fish. The basic rule for fishkeeping is :- "1 inch of fish needs a minimum of 1 gallon of water" That means that if you wish to have a goldfish it should be in a (nominal) 15 gallon tank.

Can guppys and goldfish be together in a tank?

NoGuppies, tetras, and gouramis are all wonderful fish to keep as pets but it is not a very good idea to stick them with a goldfish. Guppies, tetras, and gouramis are all tropical fish who like temperatues above 75 degrees F. Goldfish are coldwater fish which prefer colder temperatures of under 70 degrees F. By putting these fish together you would only stress them out. Also goldfish are a very messy fish that produce a large quanity of waste which could harm the tropical fish's gills. Most tropical fish like a pH that is above 7 and goldfish prefer a pH below 7.

Hope this helps ;)

Can you have two goldfish in an 11 gallon tank?

Two fancy goldfish would need a 30 gallon tank at minimum. There is an abundance of misinformation regarding the care of goldfish, and as such, they are are very misunderstood fish as far as care.
Goldfish create more waste than most other fish kept in an aquarium, and even when feeding properly, the levels of ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates can reach dangerous levels quickly.

How can fish survive in freezing temperatures?

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOOT? Of course you can freeze and thaw fish. We do it all the time in Kansas. God Bless America

Goldfish can be frozen in water and thawed in the spring without harm. We have done so many times. We had to remove the fish by cutting a block of ice around the fish with a chain saw. We then thaw them in a bucket of water then put them back into the stock tanks with fresh water. One fish we had survived several winters with no ill affects from being frozen in a large block of ice.

Betta fish spit out Betta bite pellets?

Betta's are carnivores (meat eaters).

Some readily take pellets, and some are fussy eaters, and may never eat pellets.

Try blood worms or brine shrimp if you are worried it's not eating.

Alternative is to take it back to the fish store and ask for one that is eating.

What if your pet goldfish is lying on his side still alive?

The fish is dying but is not dead yet. I would advise you to sort out your water quality issues before replacing the fish. The basic rule is "1 inch of fish needs a minimum of 1 gallon of water". On top of this, a tank containing fish should have a cycled filter and at least 50% of its water changed weekly.

Why are my goldfish sitting at the bottom of the tank which I cleaned?

If your goldfish are sitting at the bottom of your clean tank, you need to ask yourself these questions. Number one: do they have split fins? If they do, they have a desiese called the split fin disiese. To cure this, go to any pet store and ask for split fin fish medicine. Follow the directions on the box. Second question: are they moving? Or are they just being pulled by the water flowing? If they don't appear to be moving, your fish our probally dead. Finally:did I remember to feed them? Perhaps your fish are tired or hungry. Answer these questions first, then if you answer no to all of them, I don't know whot the problem is.

Can goldfish change colour?

Most goldfish are more orange in color than actually gold. Their name probably originated in the same way they did. Back in Ancient China the Chinese would keep pools of carp. Overtime, they began to notice that certain fish were a kind of shiny gold color instead of the normal, rather dull, color of most carp. They began separating these fish and breeding them thus creating the pet goldfish. Goldfish most likely got their name because, although they weren't necessarily perfectly gold in color, compared to other carp they were truly golden.

If a goldfish loses its color can it get it back?

Goldfish change their colouration as they mature. Don't be surprised or concerned.
Lighting. Fish are not naturally Orange in color, They are enhanced to be Orange by keeping them in low light. Too much light will often make them turn white or green.

Why does goldfish breathe fast and move slowly?

If a goldfish is gasping for air at the surface, it's usually a water quality issue. Test for ammonia (it should be zero), nitrites (zero), and nitrates (10ppm or less), and also your PH (7.4 to 7.6 is best).

If your numbers are different, you should try a large water change of at least 75% to help clear the water of harmful toxins, and quite likely help with the PH level. Remember to match the temperature of the new water to the old water, and to add in the recommended dosage of water conditioner per the instructions on the bottle.
This is a process that you should be doing at least every week, but more if your tank is overstocked.

How fast are goldfish?

Approximately 2 inches in length by the time the fish is 4 months old, however the growing rate greatly slows after this period (although the fish will continue to grow until about three years of age) and every goldfish is different so there is no way to know exactly how fast a particular fry will grow.

How long can a goldfish is penant?

Hey, sorry if I'm too late but, it actually differs and depends on the gold fish its self.

I remember when I had a gold fish I had it in a cup of water and by the time I got home it died. I was crying but that's not the point. Every year I got that same kind it always died. An average gold fish though, lasts about 10-25 years. There are some that live longer than that. Just make sure to give it a big tank and feed it properly everyday.

Can you add tropical fish to a cold water tank?

Many people have their own views on this question. However, the answer to this question would be NO, they cannot live together they are found in different parts of the world. If you could the shops would be mixing them. If you was to put them together the fish from the cold water would live a very short UNHAPPY life, goldfish also excrete alot.

37 gallon fish tank what can you put in it?

With a 37 gallon tank, you could have 2 fancy goldfish, or, if you stock it with tropical fish, you could have more species and varieties such as a mix of livebearing fish (Molly & Guppy for example), or neon tetras, rasboras, just to name a few.

How often should you feed your betta fish?

AnswerYou shouldn't feed it everyday. it depends on what your feeding him and how much. if it is solid betta fish food a pinch and do that 3 times a week. and if you are feeding him fruit flies than 1or2 3x a week should also be good

I feed my male Betta fish 1-2 flakes of Betta fish food a day, but I think the male fish eat more than females. If you feed your fish pellets, it's also 1-2 pellets a day. I would read the dirrections on the container/bag that your fish food comes in though.

How to treat red spots or red streaks in goldfish?

my goldfish (PIG) he is 17" long he has this right now.

let me tell you this is a long haul it will depend on how much you love your fish. this is going to be very costly and time consuming.

the red spots are blood and the red streaks in the tale they are both from ammonia level andthe spots are from ammonia and bacteria.

BUT IF YOU DO NOT TREAT THIS IT WILL DIE!

the size of your tank might be to small.

first you have to get the ammonia level under control and the pH goldfish like more than 7.0

use ammonia lock, aquarium salt, stress coat, and stress zyme.

i order my stuff from dr. foster and smith. its so much cheeper than the pet shop and for a little more they will ship overnight.

if you do not get this under control the fish will get open sores.

you should use gallons of drinking water, spring has to many minnerals in it

you should also put another air pump on in addition to what you are using now. try and keep the temp of the tank the same.

after the ammonia level is under control begin with a wide spec. antiboitic for bacteria.

you will have to change water every day before treatment then test

after you do this it is very important to put back in the ammonia lock salt stress coat and stress zyme but only for the amount of water you replace.

good luck to you and God's speed!
