Guatemala's slogan is El País de la Eterna Primavera (The Land of Eternal Spring). Do not accept "Guatemala: Soul of the Earth"as and official slogan as it was part of a past government tourism campaign and is incorrect. If you're looking for Guatemala's Motto though, it's Libre Crezca Fecundo which translates to Grow Free and Fertile
Awesome. Cool. The best place ever!.... But what people don't know is that there are some villages there facing famine and poverty.. Sure, the scenery is beautiful, but what about the starving children and unemployed parents?? From what I've heard today, it isn't the ideal place to live (in a typical Guatemalan village).. Going for a visit is fun, yes. But I'm sure most people couldn't stand 3 days seeing how the people live in those villages consumed by poverty.
The correct spelling of the proper noun is Guatemala(country in Central America).
Korea was a case of clear cut violence and open hostilities. Covert operations are secret operations, "it didn't happen."

What are 2 holidays that Guatemala celebrates?
Guatemala has a lot of celebrations. They celebrate Christmas, Easter (they call it Holy week), Independence day (their Independence from the Spanish), Revolutionary day (The dethrone of a harsh dictator), New Years Eve, and All Saints Day (locally known as the Day of the Dead, it is pretty interesting. They fly huge kites in cemeteries in hopes to communicate with the dead). All their holidays are celebrated with eating, fireworks, and pinatas.

What are the challenges of the Maya in Guatemala today?
The Mayas of Guatemala today face much discrimination from their European-blooded neighbors, and although over 70% of Guatemala's population is Mayan, the power is given to the elite white blooded people. Even recently, the mayas have often been attacked and kidnapped by the white people.
To Guatemala's people of European descent, Mayas, or "indios", are stupid and uneducated and only fit to be maids and servants, and workers. However, studies have shown that when both a white and maya person are given the same education, the mayas are actually more intelligent!
Just because of the injustice of the guatemalan government should'nt keep you from visiting this beautiful country. Unless you stay in Guatemala City, which I wouldnt advise, you probably will actually interact more with the actual maya population, which are very kind, considerate, and richly-cultured people. Antigua is a good city to visit. There are enough European students (not the bad european-blooded government) that you should be safe. There are many mayas selling their wares in the central plaza, but also no shortage of beautiful colonial buildings, and a great abundance of natural beauty. If you need a good hotel, stay at El Convento Boutique Hotel! They have excellent service and are directly next to a famous landmark, El Arco de Santa Catalina.
