Can guppies live with zebra danio fish?
They are both tropical fish species and need to be kept at around 75F. Then the basic rules for keeping fish successfully are :- 1 inch of fish needs a minimum of 1 gallon of water. :- Every tank needs a permanently running cycled filter. :- Every tank need at least 50% of its water changed every week. Follow and keep to the above rules and your fish stand a chance of survival. Fail to keep them and I can guarantee that your fish will be constantly getting ill and maybe dying.
How do you differentiate Endler's guppy females from fancy guppy females?
The Endler's has a golden tint to it's body, while the guppy has a gray/silver tint to it's body.
I have aMollie at home and i feed them normal tropical fish flakes i break 2 flakes up into tiny pieces so it is easy for the fish to swallow. you can get the flakes from a local pet shop or vet make sure you feed them once a day thanks for reading!
It is better the fish if you feed it normal goldfish or tropical flakes, I have never heard of feeding a guppie lettuse and lettuce is mostly water anyway.
How long does it take a tropical fish tank to be ready for some good fish it alreadys had 3 guppys?
The process of getting a fish tank 'ready' for fish is called cycling. Basically, 'cycling' is the establishment of the bacterial colonies that carry out the nitrogen cycle. These bacteria live in your filter. They 'eat' ammonia - a highly toxic waste product that is constantly excreted by fish - and turn it into nitrite (also toxic) and then nitrate (relatively non-toxic). If you try to keep fish in a tank that is not cycled, the ammonia levels will build up and kill your fish.
You've probably been told to put three guppies in your tank, and then wait a few weeks before adding any more fish. This is because the guppies will produce enough ammonia to start the process of cycling. However, it's not as simple as add tough fish - wait - add more fish. Ideally, you need to monitor the cycling process to see how far along you are. Buy a test kit so you can check the levels of ammonia, nitrite and nitrate in your water - I recommend the API Freshwater Liquid Master.
It's hard to work out whether three guppies is an appropriate number of fish without knowing how big the tank is. While your tank is cycling, you will need to test the ammonia and nitrite levels once every day or second day. If they rise above about 0.25 parts per million, do a 50% water change. If your tank is large with three guppies, this might only happen once a week. If it's quite small and contains three guppies, you may need to be doing 50% water changes daily until your tank has cycled. You'll need to keep this up until both ammonia and nitrite have been zero for five days. This means that the bacterial colonies are now stable and capable of supporting the number of fish you have.
Now you can start adding your other fish. It's a good idea to add one or two fish at a time, wait a few days and then add some more. Don't add all the rest of your fish at once, or you will overload the filter and your ammonia and nitrite levels will rise again.
It's very hard to give a definite answer as to how long it will be before you can start adding the rest of your fish, because this will depend on the size of your tank, how far along the cycle you already are, and whether or not the filter has been 'seeded'. By adding some live bacteria to your tank, you can cut the cycle time drastically, even down to a few days. The best way to do this is to take a small piece of filter media (like a piece of sponge or some ceramic rings) from a cycled aquarium belonging to a friend or the aquarium shop. If you can't do this, there are some products you can buy that contain bacteria to help cycle your tank. There are three that appear to work: Bio-Spira (USA), Bactinettes (UK) and Aquarium Science Eco-start (Aus.) Extensive anecdotal evidence from the world's fish community suggests that pretty much all of the others are snake oil. Cycling a filter from scratch (ie without seeding it at all) can take up to three months, but one month is more usual. Using one of these products or some live media, you're looking at about a week. It could be less if your cycle is already partly done.
What is a guppies personality?
Guppies are fish. They do not have personalities like people do. They have evolved instincts and behaviour patterns.
Can a snail live with a betta 5 fancy tail guppys 6 white clouds and 3 Cory catfish?
You will have to work that out. Snails do nothing to improve the environment. In fact they damage it for fish because they eat plants, take up oxygen, and produce wastes in the tank. 1 small snail is the equivalent of 1 inch of fish. If you count up your stocking rate in inches you will have something like 1 Betta = 3 inches, 5 guppies = 10 inches, 6 whitecouds = 8 inches and 3 corydoras = 8 inches which adds up to around 29 inches of fish. No tank is ever filled to the brim and so you would need at least a 'nominal' 35 gallon tank to house what you already have if you stick to the basic rules of sucessfull fishkeeping. The basic rules are. (:- 1 inch of fish must have at least 1 gallon of water. :- Every tank must have a permanently running 'cycled' filter. :- Every tank must have at least 50% of its water replaced every week.)
How long does it take for a baby guppy to reach adult size?
guppys or goldfish?
Guppys take about a month and a half. (Sexual maturity, not full growth)
How does a female guppy get pregnant with no male in tank for two years?
I believe that female guppies can store male sperm in their bodies until the environment is just right and then they will use it to become pregnant at will.
I hope your tank is large enough for the 7 or 8 inches of fish you have in there. (1 inch of fish needs 1 gallon of water). Shortage of oxygen will cause fish to go to the top/surface for air. However Guppies (Poecilia reticulata) are naturally surface feeding fish so that is where I would expect them to spend most of there time. Surface feeders are easy to recognise simply by looking at the construction and shape of the fishes mouth. Note that it tends to open in such a way as to skim the surface of the water.
It depends how old they are. Tiger barbs will eat young guppy fry. Tiger barbs will attack adult guppies if the water is overcrowded. However, they won't eat adult guppies.
Are these fancy guppies or feeder guppies? If you have fancy guppies, raise the temperature to 78 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, do frequent (at least weekly) 50% or more water changes and feed them small amounts of food every 4 hours when possible. Newly hatched baby brine shrimp are a good source of nourishment, but normally by 4 months guppies are large enough that they can be fed larger live and frozen foods.
How often do guppies have babies And how many do they have And how long does it take to give birth?
With all livebearers the information you are asking for is variable. Guppies can have as few as two and as many as 200 or more young in one go. They can also hold back on the delivery of their young so can go from 28 days to 3 months or more gestation period.
Should you get guppies or glofish to keep in your three gallon tank?
Either fish you get you'll only want approximately 3 fish. 1) because these fish are considering schooling fish and they are very unhappy with less than three. 2) More than 3-4 fish will crowd your fish tank- this will cause nitrate/nitrite problems and your tank will be dirty all the time.
If you are keeping these fish together then you shouldn't be - they are not compatible. Some of these are tropical, some cold water and there are big size differences. The Bumblebee catfish are noticeably smaller than all of the other fish that you have mentioned and if you are going to put in a wild caught catfish then those guppies and catfish... and maybe the goldfish are going to disappear VERY quickly.
You CANNOT keep these fish together. Separate immediately and do not put in a wild catfish, especially not a bullhead or channel.
Can guppies eat tropical fish flakes?
Yes, they will eat almost any type of flake food, their diet should include a variety of different foods for good health.
Will your guppies eat baby snails?
previous answer: no
improved answer: YES!
------------------------------
based on my experience, YES they would eat baby snails! my guppies are still fry babies and i have moved them to a tank with lots of snails, and discovered that the baby snails are gone, and their tummies are now lumpy and is showing signs of distress from being so full. i think they are able to handle baby snails, they are 100% wild caught guppies but i will watch them since im a bit concerned. ill come back to this to give an update.
From your description you have a male and a female. The only way to sex livebearers is to look at their anal fin (the fin in front of the anus). In the females it is a triangular fin. In the males it is narrow and long and comes very much to a point. This is called a "gonopodium" and is the male livebearing fishes equivalent of a penis.
It's obviously heredity! To be more specific, how the alleles end up mixing to form different genes in the guppy to make up the gene of the guppy's color of its scales.
Fries (the term for baby guppies), are eaten by older guppies, but guppies are eaten by fish like tuna.
Will a baby tortoise eat your adult guppies?
That depends upon the species of Tortoise (Turtle?). Some are vegetarian and others are carnivores.
Your guppy could be very old and is life is probably catching up to him. His final days might be coming. I may be wrong too. Your guppy could also be sick. Have you been cleaning your fish tank? Have you been feeding him too much food? These are questions you could ask yourself when questioning your guppy's health. Also is your guppy sharing a tank with another fish? If that is so you the other fish may be stealing your guppy's food so he is getting weaker and lacking energy.
