What inspired Augustus pugin to design big ben?

First.... he was one of 3 designers of the reconstruction of the Clock Tower that houses Big Ben (The largest of the bells in the clock tower) and the Palace of Westminster after the fire of 1834. He made working drawings for Charles barry to design with. His part was help with detailings, fittings and furniture. I believe his inspiration came from Charles Barry woh won the job from open competition. Pugin cared little for the gothic styles but worked under Charles barry to get the reconstruction completed. answer: Charles Barry and his restoration project inspired him, not his taste but Pugin simply did his work as a job. I say motivation more than inspiration. Skunkfarmer

Name of the tallest building in London?

A sim,ple to answer one, but not so simple! If you read the Rhodes 24 website, the old Nat West building is reported to be the tallest building in the 'City of London'. The City of London boundary is the 'historic core' of London and is often referred to as the Square Mile or The City. Just to the west of Temple, up to Holborn, down the A40 past Chancery lane, up past Faringdon past Smithfiedls to the Barbican, skirting round the Exhibition halls, down Golden Lane, enveloping Moorgate, Liverpool Street, Aldgate & Fenchurch Street, and then strangely leaving out Tower Hill as it hits the Thames.

So If you take Greater and the City, the tallest structure is One Canada Square, Canary Wharf at 800 Feet/235 Metres, followed by the Crystal Palace Transmitter. Taking the 2 areas (Greater and the City) Tower 42 on Old Broad Street is 600 feet/183 metres.
