Where can you get the libretto for Der Evangelimann?
This is a very rarely performed 1895 opera by Wilhelm Kienzl. You will have to do some research. There may be no published libretto; but the publisher of the opera itself, Bote & Bock, Berlin, Germany, is the only probable source. You might try contacting an opera house that has performed it to see if they provided a libretto.
I found a listing for an online music books website that lists the libretto. See below.
Summary of the story of William tell?
One day an Austrian soldier tried to assault Leuthold's (a Shepard) daughter. Leuthold kills the guard in defence and William tell helped him escape. William tell was the best cross-bower in the world, however as he helped luethold, Gessler (the ruler of Austria) had him arrested. Gessler decided he would let tell live if he could split an apple from his sons head with a single bolt. He successfully did this but says that if he had missed he would have shot Gessler. Gessler tries to capture tell but tell shoots him through the heart in a battle. This was a very short and vague summary but i hoped it helped.

The closest to the book Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux is Lon Chaney 1925. The ending goes its own direction, he is killed by the mob.
Another faithful to the book is animation movie The Phantom of the Opera 1987.This could well be by far the most faithful adaptation of Gaston Leroux's Gothic romance "The Phantom of the Opera". Both Christine's and Raoul's characters are presented just as they were in the novel. Erik, the Phantom, appears only as a shadow and two shinning eyes in the beginning and then as the corpse like genius as in the novel. With exception of the latest movie version of ALW's musical this is the only film adaptations that keeps the original ending in which Erik earns his redemption by allowing Christine to leave and marry Raoul. Sadly the Animation is roughly made, something out of Saturday Morning Cartoons in Style.
Where can you watch these films, you can buy the DVD at any video store, and most like find it on Crackle, Netflic, Youtube, and Hula on the internet.

Why were early opera composers attracted to the Orpheus?
In Greek mythology Orpheus was a gifted singer and player of the lyre (a hand-held harplike instrument). He was said to be so great a singer even the gods were affected, and he entered Hades to rescue his lover, Euridice, entrancing the spirits with his music. Composers loved the story for its drama and romance, but also because they could pour all their art into the magical singing of Orpheus.
