Pythons

Pythons are a family of non-venomous snakes that are native to Africa, Asia and Australia. Pythons are ambush predators that use constriction to kill their prey. Unlike female boas, female pythons lay eggs. Pythons are hunted for their skin, which is used, like leather, to make shoes, handbags and other fashion accessories. What type of home does a python build in order to survive?

As far as i know (from being a snake owner) Ball Pythons do not actually build any type of home. They like to live in secluded places that give lots of shelter. In a snake cage you put a half log or upside down box for them to live in. Their shelter should be about as wide as they are when they coil into a ball. The same goes for in the wild. They will look for a hide place that is about the same size as they are.

How do you set up a ball python tank?

Have a 20 gallon tank, or use a Tub. You can use a locking lid, clips, or luggage straps to keep the snake from escaping. Cover the bottom with about 2 inches of substrate like eco earth, newspaper, aspen. Have 2 hides 1 for each side of the tank they like them small where they can barely fit. Have a water bowl large enough for the snake to completely fit in in the cage and clean it daily to prevent disease.

Use a UTH (Under tank Heating pad) do not use a human heating pad! You can use a heat lamp or CHE(Ceramic Heat Emitter) and put it on one side of the cage. You can use multiple methods! (I use a UTH and CHE both on seperate thermostats to prevent it from getting to hot)

Pick one side to be the cool side and one to be the Warm side. It is important to have a warm side and cool side to allow thermoregulation. NO "HOT ROCKS!" These will burn your snake. Put the UTH or CHE or Light on a Thermostat designed for heating pads/ lighting. Use a Thermometer with probes to determine the proper temps of the hot and cool side. If using a screen top covering the top with duct tape and aluminum foil will help keep the temps and humidity right(remember to cut a few holes for air circulation) Also if you are using a light you will need to cut a hole for the light to sit on the screen.

Never let the temps get too hot or too cold.

Feeding they should be fed in their cages around every 5-6 days. A rodent about the same girth as the snake.

~80F (ambient temps)

~90F (basking temps)

75 or below is unhealthy

Night drops in temps are not necessary or desired

Will a rosy boa eat what it regurgitated?

No, any regurgitated meals should be removed immediately, and food and water (unless there are signs of dehydration, in which case you should schedule an appointment with a vet as soon as possible) should be withheld for at least a week, preferably two weeks before trying to feed again. Offer the smallest possible mouse you can find the next time you feed it. Regurgitation is common with Rosy boas but don't be overzealous when trying to get your snake to eat again. You should give it time to build the natural bacteria in its stomach back up to normal levels. Be careful about feeding your snake after it's had a lot of water. This is known to make Rosies regurgitate. Also check your temperature and humidity levels.

What is the difference between a snake and a python?

A Cheetah lives on the African Savannah, and panthers can be found in many countries, primarily in the Americas.

Panthers are more closely related to leopards and jaguarswith rosebud spots. Although they are usually black, this mottling can still be seen in their fur. They are a stalk-and-pounce predator instead of a distance runner.
