You actually have to be a first soprano. No amount of practice, training, or stubbornness will turn one type of voice into another. Voice lessons only develop the voice you have. If nature meant for you to be a first, you can learn to use your upper range. If you were meant by nature to be a contralto, even if you can sing that high, singing constantly against your voice type will eventually ruin whatever voice you do have.

I asked myself the same question, once. I'm a singer - and find I can often correctly guess whose singing or speaking voice I hear in songs and advertisements. The official As Time Goes By series information site lists the singer of its theme song as the same guy who plays Alistair, on the series ie; Philip Bretherton. [I can't believe the no one else got this info from the many pages online who ask the same question :) ...but maybe I'm just uniquely talented LOL]

For extra information, I don't strain to hit my range. It is my comfortable range. It's about E2 to middle C, but I can hit a couple of notes higher or lower at a strain. I'm not a trained singer, I have no experience.

Well, the best position to sing in is when you are 100% confident and sure that you can do it. Then, before you have second thoughts, get up there on the stage and sing your heart out! If you dont have a stage, then sing where you can get noticed by a few people - you may have a talent!

well, you could gather some friends and try out :) audition your friends, and try to gather as many members as possible. or maybe get someone you know who is from a choir to join. and as the choir progress, perform gigs, increase standards and all :)

well ask any singer you meet no matter how famous and they will say that the butterflies never completely go away.a good way to become less nervous would be to not make eye contact with the audience find a stage that's higher than eye level or imagine them in their under wear but that always makes me laugh.

There are so many good choir songs that you could choose from to sing, and it largely depends on what genre you are looking to sing. You can take a look at sheetmusicplus web site, which lets you search by the type of choir you are singing with and then you can look in several different genres. I have included a list of some of my favorite choral pieces with links to see them, and you can probably find a video on YouTube to get an idea of what these pieces sound like. Some of my favorite composers that you can look up include the following: Aaron Copland, Eric Whitacre, Joseph Martin, and Gyorgy Orban.
