It is used by the squid during mating season to release both mating calls and massive amounts of sperm into the water. Anyone who says they are used for breathing is a liar.

it depends on how big or what its diet or appitite is.
Yes, you can eat the swim fins. (They're quite tasty really.) But you have to get rid of the other ones though.
peanut butter & hydrogen peroxide...
Mr. Franz
-captain of a whaling shipI tried peanut butter and hydrogen peroxide combo by itself but it didn't work....until.... I added Dawn dishwashing liquid on top of the beanut butter & hydrogen peroxide mix, rubbed it in for about 1 min, and then rinsed with cold water. Worked like a charm...the pesky old squid stains on my Michael Kors shirt came off like magic ! Thanks Mr. "Captain of a whaling ship" for starting me down that path. Appreciate it.
A fellow shipmate
Had squid ink on new cream woollen clothing. Came out completely using "Softly" wool wash in warm water. Softly is Australian product from Pental Products.

It depends on the species. The Giant Pacific Octopus can indeed live for five years but others live only about six months.
Octopuses only reproduce once. Males die no more than a few months after mating. The female dies once the eggs she's been guarding hatch. Although they stop eating after mating it is an endocrine secretion from the optic gland that kills them.
The octopus sprays a amount ink (when being attacked) .Then it swims away.
It could be a female brown widow spider. Not recluse. Widow. The female brown widow spider is a close relative of the female black widow spider and is just as poisinous. Spray it with some sort of highly toxic chemical and smash it with something that completely shields or separates the spider from your hand, such as a mallet or a knife block or a sturdy shoe or boot
