Bjorn ulvaeus the lyricist (though not credited officially on records) who was in the hootenanny singers ,met Stig Anderson who was building Polar Music (the label) and they came to be his protegés ,when on the road, they had to share vehicule with another band 'the hepstars' ,the pianist Benny Andersson became bjorn's friend very quickly ,they even went to compose songs together and their collaboration went on till bjorn who ask Stig to hire Benny as a "house composer" like him ,Stig couldn't afford two composers so they shared the wages !

that was the start of an exceptional friend ship that last since 1966 to nowadays !

in the end of the sixties ,Benny met Frida a distinguished classy female singer who despite the lack of success (until he produced her records ) was praised by the critics for her talent ! they were both divorced with children and shared lot in common!

Bjorn recorded a tribute show to an old Swedish composer 'Jules Sylvain' and shared the show with another young pop star Agnetha Faltskog ,a very attractive blonde with an exceptional pure soprano voice ,and of course indistinctly fell in love .

the two guys after the split of their respective bands tried to record an album of their own songs in 1972 (mostly because few artist wanted to record the songs such young composers) but noticed that the best way was to record with their fiancés and the voices of the two girls seem to blend very much together ,so you can see with time that the girls voices shared more and more lead vocals :

in 1974 when they decided to take advantage of exposition in the ESC with Waterloo ,most of the songs on the album are the female lead .

Stig decided to use their initial A,B,B,A for DJs seem to disliked calling them "Annifrid ,Benny ,Bjorn & Agnetha" (too long)

the band did form along the years and in 1973 ,the choice to make a career was definitely taken ,so Agnetha and Frida put their solo career aside till 1975,and didn't record again untill 5 years later (1981)
