How soon can you switch from methadone to suboxone?

Yes, but ONLY after u have tapered to a 30mg methadone dose, THEN detox for 24 hours, and when u are in clear signs of withdrawal, then u can take a very low suboxone dose (1/2 a pill or so). if u do not do this, you will go through extreme withdrawal, which is 10 times worse than regular withdrawal. take my word for this, it is not something you want to mess around with

Why is smoking harmful for our health?

Tobacco is addictive. It contains nicotine - a powerfully addictive substance. Tobacco is the most common cause of lung cancer & is also a leading cause of cancer of the mouth, throat, bladder, pancreas, & kidneys.

Why does drugs abuse occur?

Since drugs are addicting it is not hard to become dependent on drugs. Drug dependence may lead to abuse as the addiction may lead to an overuse and complete reliance on drugs that may not be readily available to you. This may also lead to the fabrication of drugs using household materials or household cleansers which is in itself an abuse of potentially addictive substances. Abuse of prescription medicine or even non-prescription medicine can also be seen as abusive to drug use and is therefore drug abuse.

What are good treatments for alcohol addiction?

There are some medications available that can be really helpful. The first is disulfiram pills, also known as Antabuse. Antabuse pills make you horribly ill if you drink. Antabuse takes all the pleasure out of alcohol, and replaces it with misery. If you drink, instead of getting drunk, you get flu-like symptoms instead.

It also has a cumulative effect in your body. Meaning, if you've been taking one Antabuse pill a day for, say, 60 days, you would have to stop taking it for over a week before you could drink again. And even the strongest craving for alcohol does not last a week.

The other medication is Campral. Campral helps reduce the cravings for alcohol. I take it, and I have found it to be really helpful. I also take Antabuse, and I have tried drinking on Antabuse. The experience is just indescribably awful. Just one shot of liquor makes you so sick, you can't take another.

The right antidepressants can also work wonders. People usually develop drug or alcohol addictions because they are depressed, and are self-medicating to feel better. Antidepressants can curb, or even eliminate, these feelings of sadness and hopelessness, so you won't need alcohol to feel better.

Medication alone is not enough, though. You need to find some kind of support group. AA is, of course, the most obvious one. Personally, I hate everything about AA, but it has undoubtedly helped many, many people. You could also try searching for support groups on Craigslist, or other local online forums.

What are some signs someone may have a cocaine addiction?

Depends on if you're wanting to know if you are addicted or if someone else is.

Mostly, it is when you need it. Not want but need it. Like if you get the shakes or if you're ill when you don't have it in your system.

If you're asking about someone else, then, the most obvious signs are white pasty skin and bags under their eyes. Also, they can start twitching when they're on it and of course, they don't sleep much or have a lot of energy when they haven't had sleep. Also, they're really grouchy when they're coming down off their high or have been without drugs for too long. They can also be very jumpy and paranoid.

Speaking out of personal experience with the drug, I don't need it and I don't get withdrawal symptoms. But I am an addict booking into rehab in 2 days time. I think the only way you are not an addict is if you do it that first time (experimenting) and you never do it again or worst case scenario once a year, you are cool. Anything more than that you asking for trouble. I go on a binge once every 1-2 weeks. And after every time I promised I'll never do it again. Because once you need it, you are in trouble, but I could never stop. A month goes by and you convince yourself that you're fine and you can do it one last time. That started 5 years ago with me and I now have a slight speech impediment and my memory ain't what it used to be. Bottom line, if you are able to walk the talk and say I won't do it again, and you can go at least a year without dropping the ball, then you have nothing to worry about.

If you use Crack once, consider yourself addicted. Each time you use the drug, you will become more addicted. Each time you say to yourself, "I can use it again without becoming more addicted" you are becoming more of a fool. Each time you use and quit, for some period, you sink deeper into your self-denial. If, for whatever reason, you continue to use although you know continued use is bad for you, you are becoming more and more of an addict. The further you get into the lifestyle, the more difficult it will be to resurrect the life that you are fleeing. Be especially careful of losing contact with friends who are not into the drug-user life because they may never fully accept you back again even if you are convinced that you are no longer an addict. The longer you continue to get high, the less chance you will have of ever getting any of your previous life back. DO NOT GET INTO THE GAME UNLESS YOU DECIDE TO STAY IN IT AND HAVE THE RESOURCES TO DO SO because an addict without means to support their addiction is a thief and a potential killer (of spirit or of physical life or of both). Don't play these games with yourself.

Most people who abuse drugs abuse more than one drug?

Drug abuse is common in people suffering from Psychological disorders (depression, anxiety, ADHD) , people facing adversity in life and increased stress levels or responsibilities they feel unable to manage, and people who have experienced trauma such as sexual, physical, or emotional abuse. Grief also can cause someone to abuse drugs.

People with certain personality traits such as impulsivity are more prone to use drugs, though this does not occur in every case.

What is the best way to get off of the suboxone?

I lowered my dose gradually. I started at 2 8mg tablets daily. Went down to 1 a day.Cracking it in half and taking half in the morning and the other half at night. Then I went down to cracking the half in half after about 3 days of cracking the 1 in half. I also took 10mg Valium coming down from the bigger dose. One a day for the Valium. After taking half of the half for 3 days, I took a quarter of a half, in the morning then at night for a couple days then I didn't take any and I was fine. I did continue the Valium for a couple weeks but I went down to 5mg of Valium instead of 10. I am currently still on the Valium Because I get panic attacks real bad so that is all I take now. I had the panic attacks before I started taking suboxone so that was not an affect from not having the suboxone. Good Luck!!!

Is nicotine gum addictive?

Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances known, no matter what form it is in. The gum and patches are to help you quit smoking (or chewing tobacco), and are not intended to be used long term, or with other nicotine products. Nicotine gum is an effective method of breaking the smoking habit, but it is vital to follow the instructions on the package exactly as they are stated. I have known people who were successful in stopping smoking, but continued the nicotine addiction with the gum. That isn't recovery, it's substitution. Because chewing nicotine gum carries on the oral part of the smoking addiction, many therapists recommend the use of the patch, as there is no immediate reward for putting something in your mouth ... as you get with both the gum and cigarettes.

Will injecting suboxone film get you high?

Yes, but only the first time you take it. If you take the medication daily, you will not get high.

Is it possible to become addicted to a drug even if people have only tried it once?

That really depends on the metabolism and the body of the person, since there are people that can take drugs and never become addicted, and there are ones that with the smallest particle inhaled can make them addicts. There is really no way to tell you, so don't take the risk; you are better off without knowing it.

Can addictions be cured?

If you mean out of 100 people that try to quit an addictive substance do quit, then no. But I have seen many people quit using drugs and remain clean over 20 years. Its a whole lifestyle change that needs to take place.

Can you take suboxone after taking Oxycontin?

Not unless you feel like going into intense precipitated withdrawals and wanting to claw your eyes out. Trust me, don't do it. In fact, you need to wait at the bare minimum 12-15 hours after your last dose of heroin until you can take suboxone. You should really wait 24 hours though. You need to be in withdrawal from the heroin before the suboxone will work without making it ten times worse.

Is it dangerous to go under anaesthesia if taking suboxone?

I don't know how snorting suboxone is working for this person, because if so, it's the first I've ever heard of such a thing. Suboxone is specifically designed NOT to work any other way besides dissolving under your tongue -- even swallowing it won't work. So basically, it would just waste your suboxone. But what I don't get is why you would even want to try -- if you're taking suboxone to begin with, aren't you trying to fight a drug problem (that probably involves snorting, etc.)? Or do you just like to put things in your nose? If its the latter, let me reccommend crushing Smarties candies and doing that instead. It seems just about as intelligent.

Does Suboxone show up in military drug tests?

Yes. Suboxone contains buprenorphine (and naloxone), and is in the opioid class of medication/drugs. It will test positive for opiates on a simple urine drug screen test. The person above me is an idiot, buprenorphine doesnt show up in any standard urine drug screen, it must be specifically tested for. As far as the military testing for buprenorphine, im currently in the process of finding that out for myself, so far the general concensus is no, but dont take my word for it.

Why do drug addicts compel their friends?

Drug addicts may compel their friends either because they do not want to feel like they are addicted alone, and they want to get someone else addicted to not be alone, or simply just to get more business for their drug dealer, but it all surely does depend on the person that is addicted in the first place...i hope that helps..

I am currently taking 8 mg Of suboxone a day how much need i snort to be high?

It really isn't designed for that, the getting high part or the snorting part.

If you're looking to take a break from your program, ( don't give up on it all together )

stop taking the suboxone for 2 or 3 days, it'll clear your system and stop blocking the receptors. Then, if you must, and I'm not judging you, take what you normally took when you first started using whatever you use, it'll work again. Please consider just buying enough for a one day break, get it out of your mind, relax, whatever you're trying to accomplish, then wait until you feel the sickness coming on and resume your

Suboxone regime. Try not to take a break more than once every 3 or 4 months and limit it to one day. You're going to be an addict the rest of your life, I know I will, and if this allows you to control it, I'm not saying it's the right thing to do, but it's a hell of a lot better than giving up and giving in completely. I'm no doctor, I'm nobody really, so this is just my opinion.. take it for what it's worth.

Will you get sick if you shoot dope 6 hours after taking suboxone?

Suboxone or Buprenorphine is a semi synthetic opioid. It has partial agonist activity at the µ-opioid receptor, partial or full agonist activity at the ORL1/nociceptin receptor, and competitive antagonist activity at thekappa, and antagonist activity at the delta opioid receptors. In simple terms, if there are no other opiates/opioids in the system for the suboxone to compete with, then it is an agonist and will work like heroin etc. and prevent you from being sick. If heroin or other opiates are taken while Suboxone is in the system then it becomes an antagonist, meaning that it will block the opiate receptor from absorbing the opiates and therefore will cause sickness.

If Suboxone is taken incorrectly, or if it is abused, it can cause strong and even immediate symptoms of opiate withdrawal and detox.

Some people say that even after 24 hours they do not feel the dope.

It has a half life of 20-70 hours, on average it's around 37 hours. So if you are really bugging for a shot (and don't wanna risk getting sick), it's best to wait at least 36 hours after the last dose of suboxone.

Some people have reported being able to feel the effects of heroin while Suboxone is still actively in the system, but this maybe an addiction to injecting alone and therefore the actual act of injecting has caused an adrenaline rush that the user has mistaken for the effects of heroin.

If you really want some good advice, (from someone who knows what they're on about too), stick to your Suboxone and forget your shot. Go do something good for you that you enjoy doing, such as exercise or whatever floats your boat. If you are doing an activity you enjoy, the receptors release hormones that make you feel good! It'll be better for you in the long run!

Good Luck with whatever you decide!

What is the chance of someone recovering from an alcohol addiction?

This depends entirely on who the addicted person is, where they are and how they go about doing so.

Odds are good if you truly want to and can get access to decent help; not so good if you can't really be bothered or if you cannot reach any good aid.

How does cocaine make you sick?

The same things that would make you sick otherwise. I suggest you make a more specific question.

How do drug abuse affect learning?

the biggest problem is that people tend to lose control of their ability to pluralize properly and therefore they write things like this:

-drugged-"how does drugs affect a students grades?"

rather than this;

-not stoned- "how do drugs effect a students grades?"

see the differences? probably not, so take a breather and stop hitting the pipe before you ask sillynessness like that :)

Why should alcohol be limited?

because its sensible to do so, and if not then your stupid. and wrecking your future, you life, and others around you. you only live once so live wisely!
