Cartoon Network didn't. Cartoon Network and Adult Swim are owned by the Turner Broadcasting parent company. Cartoon Network has shows more oriented towards kids while Adult Swim has programs that entertain an older audience (mostly teenagers, college kids, and adults).

Adult Swim is a block on Cartoon Network that starts at 10:00 PM and runs to maybe 6:00 AM. It used to appear at around midnight when Toonami was around, as of 2008 Toonami was cancelled for no reason what so ever! The shows from 10:00 PM - 12:00 AM r shows that r rated TV -PG and r shown thought out the week, on Saterdays there r a few rated MA shows and after midnight r anmi shows in English. Ummm... that's a really rough description but u get the main idea.

^^^To the above. It's on Adult Swim because they show ANIME on Sunday mornings/Saturday nights. It's so popular and old, and it's an amazing anime. Vulgar things aren't the only things that need to be shown on Adult Swim. They have decency, you know.
