What definition are you using for vulgar?

They might be "of or relating to the common people," but they hardly seem "morally crude" or "ostentatious" unless you think jewelery in general fits that description.

I think big chunky gaudy 'bling' anklets are vulgar, but I love to wear small delicate chains and simple bangles around my ankles, I just think they look pretty and feminine.

If you wore an ankle bracelet in the 1930s and 1940s, in britain, it was widely understood to signify easy virtue, or a professional prostitute. Although this symbolism seems to have died out.

There is no specific symbolism behind someone wearing an anklet on the left or right ankle. Most people wear it on their right ankle because they are right handed. But in India, most of the women wear them on both of their ankles.

Anklets, are just another type of jewelry, and I personally wear one myself.

Why?

I really have no idea. It makes me a LOT more unique than the guys around me, because I'm the only one I know who wears one. (I'm straight by the way.)

Anklets give me more of a "summery" look, and it helps with the beach look if you've got a tan skin tone.

I don't really see any other reason why men would wear it, cause it's just jewelry; it tries to improve your image.

Oh, and. Don't take into account what the general group of people think: If you're a guy and you're wearing an anklet, then that makes you gay. Because that's completely wrong, if they're gonna judge you for wearing something that you like, tell them to go play in traffic.

I don't think wearing an ankle bracelet has the same hard and fast connotations that wearing a wedding band on the left ring finger does. So simply put, no would answer your question. With that being said though, my ex-wife, who had a plethora of ankle bracelets, and wore them all the time, insisted that she wear hers on her left ankle. She insisted she did so because she was married, but there were other reasons. Typically when sitting together, I would be on her left side, and she would be on my right. If she crossed her legs, even nonchalantly, this would put her ankle bracelet on the foot that was elevated where it could be more easily seen.

Since I am a person that has strong convictions about marriage and tradition, I think wearing an ankle bracelet on the left ankle if you are married would be a great tradition to start, but I don't think its against any hard and fast fashion rules to be wearing it on say your left ankle if you were unwed.

You can probably make him wear them, but you can't stop him from taking them off as soon as he gets away from you. It is better to talk to him and reach an understanding with him. Is it really important for him to wear them?
