What do anorexic eat for breakfast?

If they are eating (and some anorexics might not even have breakfast at all), it will usually be very low-calorie. Something like fruit would be ideal, because it is filling, sweet, and most fruits are high in water, but low in calories. Generally, no milk or juices because they either have fat, added sugar, high amounts of calories, ect. Tea is almost alwasy 0 calories, so an anorexic might lean towards tea over something plain, like water, for added flavor without the added calories. Anything sugary, wheat (oatmeal, cereal, bread / toast, pancakes, waffles) or protein (eggs, sausage) is usually out of the picture.

What is an extreme eating behavior that can damage your body?

If it's "extreme," it can eventually kill you.

In 12-step terminology, an addiction is any behavior that is now independent of what caused it and is making your life unmanageable. It is something that you alone cannot stop, despite knowing that it is causing you harm and do not want it.

Compulsive Eating fits these criteria. Obesity often results. The burdens placed on the body due to obesity destroy the healthy production schedule of necessary hormones, etc... (the link between obesity and Type II diabetes has recently been found to be exaggerated).

Body Dysmorphia is what is commonly referred to as a "distorted body image." It often leads to Anorexia Nervosa (self-starvation) or Bulimia (binge-purge). Bulimics starve themselves for a time, then binge on huge quantities followed by self-induced vomiting. The acid from their vomiting eventually erodes/eats the enamel on their teeth, their gums and their esophagus. Fatal bleeding can result from this.

How can you starve yourself without feeling hungry?

Until you're dead, or until you become a Tibetan Monk.

If someone has a mind of an anorexic and starves themselves but if they do eat not a binge they purge is that anorexic with bulimic tendencies?

It is important to recognize that "bulimia" or "bulimia nervosa" is a diagnosis. Like any other medical diagnosis you must meet certain criteria in order to be diagnosed 'bulimic.' According the the DSM IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) in order to be diagnosed with bulimia you must: 1) demonstrate episodes of binge eating (eating within any 2 hour period an amoutn of food larger than most people would eat. Binge eating is characterized also by a sense of lack of control while eating.) 2) demonstrate innapropriate compensatory behavior to avoid weight gain (i.e. self induced vomiting, inappropriate use of laxitives, fasting, or excessive exercise) 3) The above binge/purge cycle continues over at least a three month period of time, with an average of two binges/purges per week. 4) The individual is strongly influenced by body image and weight 5) The binge/purge cycle does not occur only during episodes of anorexia nervosa.

If all these criteria are not met, than technically, the individual is not bulimic. However, if the individual is expressing some of the symptoms, than perhaps that individual would be diagnosed with "EatingDisorder Not Otherwise Specified" (EDNOS.)

Is there rehab for anorexia?

There are places a person can go to if they have an eating disorder, anorexia and/or bulimia. They are usually called medical treatment facilities, not rehab. An eating disorder is a medical illness, like cancer. Rehab is for something like drug or alcohol abuse. A self inflicted problem, that was (usually) caused by substance abuse. A person can be born with an eating disorder, it's not a problem that is caused by substance abuse, although people who are afflicted with an eating disorder might abuse a substance as a Result of the medical problem.

Another Answer

Anorexia Nervosa is not about food: it is about power. When the person suffering with the disease realizes that the disease has power over him or her, committed, medical attention is required.

Generally, in confinement, patients are required to gain up to half a pound a day, or forgo privileges, such as television. A prolonged confinement may be required in order to work through the physical and emotional issues involved with professional help and guidance.

Most importantly, the family and support system must recognize that the disease cannot have power over them, too. They must make it clear to the 'patient' that a refusal to eat or to participate in mealtimes is powerless over the group.

How do you know if you have binge eating disorder?

The following five criteria should be met for a patient to be diagnosed with Bulimia Nervosa: # Recurrent episodes of binge eating. An episode of binge eating is characterized by both of the following: ## Eating, in a fixed period of time (e.g., within any two-hour period), an amount of food that is definitely larger than most people would eat during a similar period of time and under similar circumstances. ## A sense of lack of control over eating during the episode (e.g., a feeling that one cannot stop eating or control what or how much one is eating). # Recurrent inappropriate compensatory behavior in order to prevent weight gain, such as self-induced vomiting; misuse of laxatives, diuretics or other medications; fasting; or excessive exercise. # The binge eating and inappropriate compensatory behaviors both occur, on average, at least once a week for three months. # Self-evaluation is unduly influenced by body shape and weight. # The disturbance does not occur exclusively during episodes of anorexia nervosa.
