Can you take st johns wort and Effexor?

The combination should not cause any problems, (THIS IS AN EDIT: Actually, taking the two in combination will cause problems as they both do effect chemicals in the brain. I recently talked to a pharmacist about this combination and was warned that it could be exceedingly dangerous. There is also numerous studies done that have verified the danger.) but I would advise against taking Venlafaxine Hydrochloride (Effexor) as the side effects reveal that it may not only increase your depression, but cause a whole host of other problems too. The drug is designed to change the chemicals in your brain, and balance them out; but what if that went wrong? Most pills are not altering the brain - I would not trust one that did.

Side Effects:

  • increased blood pressure (severe headache, blurred vision)
  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, fast heartbeat; hallucinations, loss of coordination, fainting, coma
  • seizure (convulsions)
  • extreme thirst with headache, nausea, vomiting, and weakness
  • easy bruising or bleeding.
  • drowsiness, dizziness, nervousness, or anxiety
  • dry mouth, increased sweating
  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation
  • decreased sex drive, impotence, or difficulty having an orgasm
  • headache, blurred vision
  • tremor or chills
  • changes in appetite or weight.
  • Increased depression and suicidal thoughts (especially in those under 24)

I would not trust a pill or a doctor with my life, except in emergency situations. You should not either. If you continue to take Effexor, then you must avoid all alcohol, as the combination can be fatal. Take care of yourself. Click on my username and send me a message, and I will recommend some herbal treatments for depression which have worked for both me and people that I know.

(ANOTHER EDIT: Please do talk with a doctor if you believe you need one or both of these. They have been professionally trained to help diagnose and treat these kinds of things. Herbs are considered medicinal too and should be treated with as much caution as drugs as they can both interact and cause desirable/undesirable side effects. As for side effects...well, everything has side effects, even water. That is why it is best to talk with a doctor.)

Can you take triamterine hctz and diamox at the same time?

These two medications should be safe to take together. To make sure that this is a good combination of medications for you, check with your doctor or pharmacist.

Does bupropion increase gout?

There is no, confirmed evidence to support a link between Bupros and most water retention medications. Diuretics (such as thorasine and caffiene pills) are prescribed to aid the flow of water through the system.

If you are concerned about any medication you are taking then you should consult your GP.

What are the most commonly prescribed drugs for depression?

Antidepressants

Wellbutrin, Zoloft, Prozac, Paxil, Lexapro, and Effexor to a lesser degree. I've seen much advertising about Cymbalta, but I don't know how frequently it's actually prescribed. These at least are the most common ones i hear about being administered.

What is the prefix of antidepressants?

"Anti-" is the prefix. The most accurate definition for "anti-" in this context is "serving to prevent, cure, or alleviate."

How quickly will the side effects of citalopram take to go away?

Never stop Citalopram cold turkey! It is very important that you work closely with your doctor and withdraw from the antidepressant very slowly. The length of time it will take to get over the withdrawal depends on the dose and how long you have been on this medication. Withdrawal Symptoms: Citalopram hydrobromide (Celexa) and other selective serotonin re uptake inhibitors (SSRI for short) are known to cause withdrawal symptoms in people who quickly stop their medicine.

Certain Citalopram withdrawal symptoms can include, but are not limited to:

* Irritability * Agitation * Dizziness * Burning or tingling sensation * Anxiety * Confusion * Headache * Insomnia * Tiredness. If your doctor is weaning you off slowly and you are still having some of the above symptoms your doctor may put you back on the medication and wean you off even slower. Again, it's important you work closely with your doctor. Many people can come off this medication without further treatment.

Is Pamelor an maoi?

No. It's an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor), a "safer" class of antidepressants than MAOIs (monoamine oxidase). Paxil acts on one specific neurotransmitter in the brain (serotonin) wereas MAOIs act on several neurotransmitters (serotonin, dopamine, noradrenaline, and other amines).

Took 2 10mg lexapro by mistake Usually only take 1 What will the effects be if any?

My doctor told me that 10ml of Lexapro is "what we give little old ladies" and increased it to 20ml. I think you should be ok.

Yeah, I was taking 40 mgs a day for awhile. Now I take 30 mgs.

What happens if alcohol is consumed with remeron?

The truth is that just like they don't know exactly how antidepressants work, they don't really know the synergistic effect of alcohol and psych meds. Alcohol pretty much affects every type of neurotransmitter in the brain (dependent on how much you drink). This is why alcohol makes you feel good in moderate amounts. When you have a drug like Remeron which stimulates the release of serotonin and norepinephrine and alcohol which effects membrane permeability and neurotransmitter release then you will most likely have issues.

Personally, I cannot drink much while on Remeron. It's not that I get loaded fast, it's just that I don't have the urge to drink much more than 2 or 3 drinks. It's kind of like my brain tells me to stop. The one thing I have noticed is that after two or three days of drinking even small amounts of alcohol I have an overall feeling of being down.

Ideally,we should not be drinking any alcohol while on these meds, however I do enjoy a few beer. I try and only drink once a week (usually on a Friday). This past weekend for example was a holiday though and I drank Friday (4 drinks), Saturday(3 drinks) and Sunday(2 drinks). So here I am on a holiday Monday feeling kind of down and depressed.

In the end it's obviously your choice. When it comes right down to it, if you can stop drinking for a while that would be best. If not just be very aware of your drinking habits and how you feel afterward. I personally kept a journal.

Anyway, good luck.

Is there anything you can take that will lessen the symptoms of dizziness when you are weaning yourself off of Lexapro?

Check with a pharmacist first but maybe an anti nausealant (sorry I can't spell good) like Gravol would help. If you like to go the natural way, try Valarian root capsules or tea. You can find that at you local health store. Jessica
