Why is discontinuing Effexor XR suddenly not advised?
It's not advised to stop taking any antidepressant medication suddenly due to the withdrawal effects. Effexor XR needs to be taken once a day to keep your blood levels of the drug up to therapeutic levels (basically meaning that your blood's carrying enough of the drug to have it working).
Having said that, if it's making you really sick, you could probably consider either cutting down the dosage and weaning yourself off it over a week or so.
Antidepressants are a pretty powerful bunch of meds as they affect the chemicals in your brain. I've been on Efexor for about 4 years and tolerate it well, but cannot switch or get off it due to the nasty side effects, but am happy to stay on it because my depression is very bad when I'm unmedicated.
Sorry for rambling, basically the Drs and Pharmasists don't advise stopping Effexor XR suddenly due to the withdrawal side effects which can include, but are not limited to:
Nausea, Dizziness, Brain "Tremors"/ Brain Zaps, Fatigue, feeling "foggy"/out of it, swings in appetite, swings in mood, weight gain/ weight loss.
Can you switch from Ativan to Prozac with no problems?
Switching from Ativan (lorazepam) to Prozac (fluoxetine) should be done under a healthcare professional's guidance, as they serve different purposes: Ativan is a benzodiazepine used for anxiety, while Prozac is an antidepressant. Abruptly stopping Ativan can lead to withdrawal symptoms, and transitioning to Prozac may require a tapering schedule. Your doctor will ensure a safe and effective plan tailored to your needs. Always consult a healthcare provider before making any medication changes.

Is 90 mg of Prozac too high for a starting dosage?
I assume you are referring to Prozac Weekly, as this is the typical dose we prescribe for it. The weekly pill only comes in a 90 mg form that I am aware of, and it's usually started about a week after stopping regular Prozac (typically, the weekly form is not prescribed for acute treatment--just long-term treatment, although some physicians may start with it). As with any of the anti-depressants, the main thing we look for is an increase in suicidal thoughts and actions or worsening of the patient's depression. Make sure that if this is happening to immediately seek help. If you have questions about why you were started on the medication at the dose you were, talk to the physician who prescribed it. Hope this helps! Dr. B. REGULAR Prozac is (according to Nursing Drug Handbook) usually started at 20 mg. in the A.M., increased to twice a day, with the maximum being 80 mg./day. Always question your doctor and pharmacist, and ask your pharmacist for a print- out on Prozac. It has tons of information.
Are antidepressants dangerous to brain memory?
Some studies have shown that some antidepressants can affect short term memory for some people, yes. Be sure to consult your doctor to see if this is something that might be happening to you, and don't stop taking an antidepressant without talking to your doctor. Some of them have negative effects if you just stop taking them cold.
What does bupropion show up as on a drug test?
No, not on a standard drug test. No job or hospital will be checking for suboxone since it is an expensive test. There are mostly 12 panal drug tests, and suboxone is not one they look for. Only your suboxone appointed doctor will be checking to be sure you are not selling the subs. No worries.

Has anyone experienced daily profuse sweating on Lexapro?
I'm going to get myself off of this stuff ASAP (you can't just quit cold turkey. You have to gradually be taken off of it).
Indication of anti depressant drugs?
Some of the indications that someone is on anti-depressant drugs include slurred talking and loss of bodily coordination. Dosing off and occasional hallucination are advanced symptoms of antidepressant drug usage.
All I can say is scientifically, antidepressants and mood stabilizers prevent "damage" (decreased neurons/dendrites/anxiety) that accompanies mental disorders. If you're looking for "future" effects, Wellbutrin can slightly elevate anxiety, Prozac caneventually "stop" working for no reason, and Seroquel has not shown long term damage, and is significantly likely to prevent damage (it normalizes EEG, or brain wave patterns, significantly more than any antipsychotic/antidepressants), typically only if you respond to the medicines are side effects limited, and of course, if any effect becomes intolerable, talk to a qualified health professional about options.
Can night sweats be a side effect of Effexor xr?
Night sweats are not usually a side effect of Effexor. This medication is usually prescribed for depression but has also found a great use in ladies who have hot flashes especially when it is chemically or medically induced. Patients who have breast cancer and undergo menopause as a side effect of treatment are usually placed on Effexor to help them with Hot flashes.
Your brain is like a main circuit board and medications are given to balance the two chemicals in the brain. The doctor will keep you on the medication for how ever long they feel it will take and when you are ready to come off it please work with your doctor and slowly wean yourself off them. I was on a SSRI and that's what I did and I was just fine. The medication helped balanced the chemicals in my brain and I did just fine after that. Cognitive Therapy and counseling along with this are a MUST and you learn good coping tools to deal with stress. Medications such as SSRIs or sedation's are simply a band-aid.
Why don't antidepressants help you with depression?
Don't worry. You're not the only one. I've been on and off of them for years now. For an antidepressant to be approved by the FDA, it only needs 2 more successes than placebos. Think about that for a second. You might as well be taking sugar pills. That's why the doctor tells you to give it 4 to 6 weeks for it to work. It's all in your head. Antidepressants are practically pills that do nothing but cause sexual dysfunction. I honestly think they're a joke. If you're depressed, try to get a stimulant. But that's very difficult IF you have a history of drug abuse that your doctor is aware of.
