Fire ants can cause large amounts of damage to homes, people, and other animals. This means that they will harm others physically, financially or even mentally and should be eradicated.

you don't die like people say......... i got stung by one a couple weeks ago and just put Clorox bleach on it or gasoline and it will stop the stinging it helped me and it hurts really bad my foot got the size of a baseball where i got stung

It could be due to the temperature, the colder it is, the less they move. Try putting them somewhere warmer. Also keep in mind that this gel is nutrient enriched and if you think about that for a minute......what is really motivating the ants to look for food? Nothing, they are surrounded by it.....hence the reason why I believe they get lazy and show no real initiative anymore.

Remember also that this gel/ant experiment was designed by NASA to study microgravity and while I am not totally sold on everything that NASA designs or experiments with..the concept was genius, but now it's just another gimmick to get parents to spend their money on something, when the real study of the ant's should be done with something a lot more similar to their original habitat. I would definitely choose a sand ant farm over a gel one.

Put 10 ants in a row. Now put ten such rows next to each other so that you have a square of ten by ten ants, giving you 100 ants. Now put 20 such squares of ants on top of each other, 20 ants high. This gives you a block of 10X10X20 ants. That would be 2000 ants.

The same would be true of dice, or bricks, or basketballs.
