This just happened to me today for the first time ever. It was v scary, especially since I was driving at the time. I thought I was having a stroke. To make it stop, you have to get control of your breathing & take deep, slow breaths. (I still don't understand why it's the hands that are affected, and not some other body part.)

Just like a person can suppress parts or events of themselves they feel ashamed of; mythomania is the other side of the same coin where they make up events that never happened to feel proud of themselves.
I would guess the cause for this would be the same root as with NPD or other 'self' related disorders - where they treated by a parent or someone else in their enviroment when they're small and receptive in such a way they learn to feel ashamed about who they are; and therefore learn to lie to 'enlarge' themselves to compansate for how small they feel.
