What is a two-year Associate of Arts degree from a community college?
An associate degree is two years of college. It is basically all of your General education units that you do before you begin your last two years for a BS or BA. If you are attending a community college or planning on it they are a good value for your dollar and the instructors often work in the fields they teach. The community college is often more realistic than a university because the university tends to teach on a more philosophical level. I went to community college and have taught classes in one.

Is it possible to earn both an AAS degree and an AA degree from the same college?
Yes you can! There are instances where students have a particular reason for a second degree in an unrelated field. For example an AA in education, and an AS in nursing. Just make sure that this type of approach serves your overall career goals and objectives. In other words, I would not take a second associates just for the the sake of a second associates. Have a reason and plan that makes good career sense, and is beneficial for you.
How can you get a copy of your associates of arts degree?
Contact the registrars office at the school you graduated from. They will appropriately direct you. An official transcript is never a problem, however the actual printed diploma is another issue. These are typically printed in batch particular to each semester. Still, they may have options to provide a diploma, especially if the original was destroyed or lost.
How many years do you have to attend communtiy college to get a diploma?
The associates degree is designed as a two year program of study as a full-time student provided the student takes the degree as prescribed by the college, and provided the student does not require prerequisite coursework as a result of basic skills testing. There are some programs of study that may take a bit longer depending on the number of credits required. Usually these are programs within the health related fields. In addition, for students who require developmental coursework as a result of basic skills testing, it would take longer. How much longer would depend on the extent of the developmental courses they are required to take. Evidently, those individuals who attend college on a part-time bases would also extend their time in school. How much longer would depend on the credit load carried each semester. Typically, an associates degree takes between 60 and 64 credits to complete depending on the specific school, program of study, and state mandates.
What qualifications do you need to teach elementary school art?
Typically an art teacher needs an education degree for the level they will teach at - elementary ed for lower grades - middle school ed for middle school - high school level for high school (most, but not all states look for an education degree with this kind of age-specific focus) In addition, you would need to have an art specialization. So the result is either an education degree with a heavy concentration in art or an art degree supplemented by the education classes necessary to qualify for an teaching license.
What degrees are needed to become a massage therapist in North Carolina?
In 2007, 38 States and the District of Columbia had laws regulating massage therapy in some way. Most of the boards governing massage therapy in these States require practicing massage therapists to complete a formal education program and pass a national certification examination or a State exam. It is best to check information on licensing, certification, and accreditation on a State-by-State basis.
Education and training. Training standards and requirements for massage therapists vary greatly by State and locality. There are roughly 1,500 massage therapy postsecondary schools, college programs, and training programs throughout the country. Massage therapy programs generally cover subjects such as anatomy; physiology, the study of organs and tissues; kinesiology, the study of motion and body mechanics; business; ethics; as well as hands-on practice of massage techniques. Training programs may concentrate on certain modalities of massage. Several programs also provide alumni services such as post-graduate job placement and continuing educational services. Both full- and part-time programs are available.
These programs vary in accreditation. Massage therapy training programs are generally approved by a State board, and may also be accredited by an independent accrediting agency. In States that regulate massage therapy, graduation from an approved school or training program is usually required in order to practice. Some State regulations require that therapists keep up on their knowledge and technique through continuing education.
Licensure. After completion of a training program, many massage therapists opt to take the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCETMB). Many States require that therapists pass this test in order to practice massage therapy. The exam is administered by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB), which has several eligibility requirements. In States that require massage therapy program approval, a candidate must graduate from a State-approved training institute or submit a portfolio of training experience for NCBTMB review to qualify for the test. In locations that do not require accredited training programs, this is unnecessary.
When a therapist passes the NCETMB, he or she can use the recognized national credential: Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCTMB). The credential must be renewed every 4 years. In order to remain certified, a therapist must perform at least 200 hours of therapeutic massage and complete continuing education requirements during this time. In 2005, the NCBTMB introduced a new national certification test and corresponding professional credential. The new test covers the same topics as the traditional national certification exam, but covers fewer modalities of massage therapy. Recognition of this new national certification varies by State.
Recently, a second multi-State examination program has begun to take shape. The Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards offers a licensure program that is also accepted by many States.
Massage therapy licensure boards decide which certifications and tests to accept on a State-by-State basis. Therefore, those wishing to practice massage therapy should look into legal requirements for the State and locality in which they intend to practice.
Other qualifications. Both strong communication skills and a friendly, empathetic personality are extremely helpful qualities for fostering a trusting relationship with clients and in turn, expanding one's client base. Massage can be a delicate issue for some clients and because of this, making clients feel comfortable is one of the most important abilities for massage therapists.
Advancement. Membership in a professional massage therapy association may help therapists network and in turn, find new clients. Some of these associations require that members graduate from a nationally credentialed training program, have a State license, or be nationally certified by the NCBTMB.
Because of the nature of massage therapy, opportunities for advancement are limited. However, with increased experience and an expanding client base, there are opportunities for therapists to increase client fees and, therefore, income. In addition, those who are well organized and have an entrepreneurial spirit may go into business for themselves. Self-employed massage therapists with a large client base have the highest earnings.

I have 51 credit hours how do i get 60 to get an associate's degree?
I have been working in higher education for 26 years and have never been aware of associate degrees where the state mandate was 90 credits to complete. The oldest two year institution in New Jersey was founded in 1933, and has always been 60 credits (at that time) to complete. There are colleges at present that require 60 credits, some states 62, and I know in New Jersey it is now 64. Now there are some programs of study at the associates level that require more than the state mandate, but they are usually in the allied health area, such as Nursing, Respiratory Care, Dental Hygiene, etc. Having to complete 90 credits would - in part - defeat the purpose of a two year institution.

How many credit hours is 6 semester hours?
There are no standard tuition and fee rates for colleges and universities. Each institution will have rates particular to itself. There are a number of variables to consider to include whether the institution is public or private, the geographical location, the specific program of study (some of which have greater course and/or clinical fees), and whether the school is a two year or four year institution. Once you collect the names of some colleges and universities you have an interest in, you can then research the cost specific to those institutions.

It depends on the type of associates degree and the specific program of study. There are degrees at the associate level that are referred to as transfer programs and will be accepted full faith in credit at four year colleges and universities. Many individuals take advantage of the community college system for a variety of reasons. Still, there are some programs of study that are typically terminal degrees, that are very career oriented and designed to give a student all the expertise necessary to enter the workforce immediately after completion of the degree. Always meet with the transfer counselor at the school you attend for detailed information. Read the following for the differences in associate degrees. This should help.
What is the difference between Associates of Arts, Associates of Science, and Associates of Applied Science?
Associate degrees fall into three main areas.
Each of the above degrees is designed to be completed after two years of study as a full-time student and provided the student takes the degree as prescribed by the college. In addition, most every community college requires that every incoming student be placement tested before they register for their first semester (unless they fall into an exemption category). This test is not an admissions test and has no bearing on a student's acceptance to the college. In fact, most students have already been accepted to the school before they take the test. It is not a test that is passed or failed, but simply to determine whether an individual needs to take some refresher courses before entering college level coursework. This is to ensure the student has the appropriate basic skills to succeed at the college level.
The test is broken down into four parts; two parts English and two parts mathematics. The English includes grammar (sentence sense), and reading comprehension. The math includes computation (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, fractions, square roots, and percentages), and the equivalent of a high school algebra I. If the student scores low in any these areas, then they will be required to enroll in the indicated remedial course/s starting with their first semester. Thus, the two year degree plan may turn into a two and a half year, or possibly a three year plan depending on how much remedial work is needed. To limit this time, students have the option to enroll in summer session courses.
Now let us look at the inherent differences between the degrees:
Associates of Arts (AA)
The Associates of arts is really designed as a fully transferable degree to a four year college or university for those pursing a Bachelors degree. It serves to complete most of the four year institutions general education cluster area, which amounts to the first two years of a four year program. It also serves to complete any perquisite courses needed for the four year institutions curriculum major and minor requirements. Students are admitted to Junior level status provided they have completed the matching associate's level degree. In other words, Business AA to Business BA, Engineering AS, to Engineering AS etc. Thus, within this degree students will be required to have a well rounded educational foundation to include, English literature, history, social science, laboratory science, humanities, math, communications, etc. These courses are in addition to the student's major field of study.
Associates of Science (AS)
Within the AS degrees a student will notice there are less general education requirements, and more career oriented course work. You will find this in curriculums to include, Nursing, Engineering, some Computer Science and Allied Heath fields. Still, these programs should be fully transferable to four year institutions provided the degree matches that of the four year college or university's program of study, as mentioned above under AA degrees.
Associates in Applied Science (AAS)
The AAS degrees are very career oriented and designed to give the student all the expertise needed for entry level positions upon completion of the degree. Therefore, the student will notice most of the AAS degree is made up of professional phase courses particular to a specific field, and a very limited number of general education courses. This has promoted the myth, that all AAS degrees are not transferable to four year colleges and universities. I will admit, as the degree was originally designed; transferability was not the original intent of this type of degree. Therefore many AAS degree fields of study did not transfer to four year institutions very well. In fact, in some categories it was almost like starting over. Today this is not so. Community Colleges today have what is known as Joint Admissions or Dual Admissions articulations with four year institutions, where if the student completes the agreed upon program of study successfully, the four year institution will take the degree full faith in credit and grant the student Junior level status. This includes AAS degrees. However, it is strongly recommended that a student who is seeking to transfer to a four year institution at a later date, make an appointment with a Transfer Counselor at the Community College for the pros and cons of AAS transfer as well as more detailed information.

What are the opportunity for advancement for a social worker?
The following is written by and according to the U.S. Department of Labor and particular to a social worker.
Employment for social workers is expected grow much faster than the average for all occupations through 2016. Job prospects are expected to be favorable, particularly for social workers who specialize in the aging population or work in rural areas.
Employment change. Employment of social workers is expected to increase by 22 percent during the 2006-16 decade, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. The growing elderly population and the aging baby boom generation will create greater demand for health and social services, resulting in rapid job growth among gerontology social workers. Employment of social workers in private social service agencies also will increase. However, agencies increasingly will restructure services and hire more social and human service assistants, who are paid less, instead of social workers. Employment in State and local government agencies may grow somewhat in response to growing needs for public welfare, family services, and child protective services, but many of these services will be contracted out to private agencies. Employment levels in public and private social services agencies may fluctuate, depending on need and government funding levels.
Opportunities for social workers in private practice will expand, but growth may be somewhat hindered by restrictions that managed care organizations put on mental health services. The growing popularity of employee assistance programs is expected to spur demand for private practitioners, some of whom provide social work services to corporations on a contractual basis. However, the popularity of employee assistance programs will fluctuate with the business cycle because businesses are not likely to offer these services during recessions.
Employment of child, family and school social workers is expected to grow by 19 percent, which is faster than the average for all occupations. One of the major contributing factors is the rise in the elderly population. Social workers, particularly family social workers, will be needed to assist in finding the best care for the aging and to support their families. Furthermore, demand for school social workers will increase and lead to more jobs as efforts are expanded to respond to rising student enrollments as well as the continued emphasis on integrating disabled children into the general school population. There could be competition for school social work jobs in some areas because of the limited number of openings. The availability of Federal, State, and local funding will be a major factor in determining the actual job growth in schools. The demand for child and family social workers may also be tied to the availability of government funding.
Mental health and substance abuse social workers will grow by 30 percent, which is much faster than the average, over the 2006-16 decade. In particular, social workers specializing in substance abuse will experience strong demand. Substance abusers are increasingly being placed into treatment programs instead of being sentenced to prison. Also, growing numbers of the substance abusers sentenced to prison or probation are, increasingly being required by correctional systems to have substance abuse treatment added as a condition to their sentence or probation. As this trend grows, demand will strengthen for treatment programs and social workers to assist abusers on the road to recovery.
Growth of medical and public health social workers is expected to be 24 percent, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. Hospitals continue to limit the length of patient stays, so the demand for social workers in hospitals will grow more slowly than in other areas. But hospitals are releasing patients earlier than in the past, so social worker employment in home health care services is growing. However, the expanding senior population is an even larger factor. Employment opportunities for social workers with backgrounds in gerontology should be good in the growing numbers of assisted-living and senior-living communities. The expanding senior population also will spur demand for social workers in nursing homes, long-term care facilities, and hospices. However, in these settings other types of workers are often being given tasks that were previously done by social workers.
Job prospects. Job prospects are generally expected to be favorable. Many job openings will stem from growth and the need to replace social workers who leave the occupation. However, competition for social worker jobs is expected in cities, where training programs for social workers are prevalent. Opportunities should be good in rural areas, which often find it difficult to attract and retain qualified staff. By specialty, job prospects may be best for those social workers with a background in gerontology and substance abuse treatment.

Can you get your master's degree with a GED?
Absolutely! My undergraduate work is in psychology, but my masters is in organizational management. If you do not have the appropriate prerequisites for the masters program of your choice, you may have to complete them at the undergraduate level if you have not already done so. Still, some graduate work may not have prerequisites. Thus, you can choose a masters within a different field than your bachelors work.
Could you get a bachelors in business in less then four years?
Yes, it is possible. Some colleges and universities offer accelerated programs. Still, it will depend on the credit load a student carries per semester, the demands of a specific program of study, whether a student takes summer sessions, and/or interim sessions. A word of warning. Students who push too hard can sacrifice their grade point average (GPA), get discouraged, or wind up dropping out. It's better to start at a slower pace. Then after you have adjusted and understand the demands required of you, you can then build up your credit load. I understand that at times individuals need to get out into the work force quickly, however use appropriate balance at first and you will stand a much better chance at being successful in achieving your overall career goals and objectives.
How many credits is a LPN degree program?
It depends in where you take the program. The average credit requirement for most community colleges is approximately 52 credits and it takes about one year to complete as a full-time student. Part time would take longer. If you start in September, you will finish the following September, and there is not break. The program will run through the summer. However, each school may have schedules particular to themselves and you should check some schools of interest. If possible, I would advise you take the program through a college. Thus, if you wanted to continue your education after completion, you will have some college credits to apply toward a degree. In addition, their are many colleges that offer an LPN to RN program. Some schools refer to it as an RN completion program. They typically will give you 20 credits based on your LPN license, plus credit for you general education requirements. However, as I indicated you would have had to take the program through a college.
What colleges require admission essays?

Many times, colleges will individually require a supplement essay or other short answer type questions. Some state universities do not require you write an admission essay.
