Well, My 1997 2.4 V6 has 195,000 miles on the clock and is still running sweet. Regular maintenance, frequent oil changes and TLC I recon... I expect to get many more miles on my A6 before its time for pasture.... BTW, my A6 is no highly polished and meticulously detailed machine. It is completely standard, showing some dents and dullness both inside and out. A great vehicle though, one of the best I've owned in some 25 years of driving. Starts on the button every morning and has never let me down. I have had to change a few engine sensors over the last couple of years when I had engine management lights come on, but beyond that, just regular maintenance keeps it in shape.

The service indicator on an Audi A6 can only be reset with something called the VAGCOM. One may be found on line but it would be better to take in into an Audi dealership or authorized mechanic because more damage can be caused.

In a 1999 A6 Avant the battery is located under the hood near the windshield & wipers on the left as you face the car under a black cover that is a little larger than the size of a typical battery. On mine there are symbols + & - on the black cover.

I don't think its a good idea to turn a 4.2 A6 into an RS6. But they are technically the same engine but the RS6 has twin-turbo.

in addition most of the parts on the RS6 are different to the A6 model. Audi generally revise most of the parts on the R/S/RS variants of cars and provide improved performance items.

For example on the original 8L shape Audi S3 there were very few parts that were interchangeable between the normal A3 and the S3. If you want an RS6 it will be far cheaper to buy one than to try and turn a normal A6 into one.

Synthetic oil is proving to be a superior lubricant for all engines. It not only lasts longer but also creates far less "sludge" and other buildup. Engine sludge is actually parafin, much like the wax that is used to make candles. The parafin breaks off of an oil hydrocarbon chain and bonds with other parafin molecules, until you create a large amount of sludge inside the engine. Regular oil changes can slow the process, since the parafin molecule typically starts to break off after the oil has been used for a while. But since the parafin has been removed from the synthetic oil, you'll end up with a far cleaner oil, plus the oil will not break down for up to 25,000 miles, giving you far superior lubrication inside the engine. While synthetic oils make claims to last that long, most people never use it for much more than 10,000 or 12,000 miles. But even then, it's far less expensive since you're changing less often, and you still have the advantage that it provides superior lubrication. The more reputable auto manufacturers will not specify a brand of oil, but will indicate the viscosity and request specific engineering certifications. Look at the top of the oil can/bottle for the engineering specification stamps, and read the owners manual for the recommended viscosity. All oil manufacturers offer you a choice of oil viscosities. Mobil 1 has a 0-40 euro formula that works great in the winter. But if you plan on taking your car to the track the heavier oil will cool the engine better. 15-50 for hot summer track days keep the temp down.

Possible causes: low coolant level; thermostat stuck in the closed position; faulty water pump.

P0173 Fuel Trim Malfunction Bank 2. You need to identify where is cylinder number 1. This one will be the bank 1. The bank 2 is the other one. Need to check Air Flow sensor Fuel Pressure psi (47-50) psi. Incorrect Fuel Engine Coolant Temperature sensor ECT sensor Heater Oxygen sensor B2S1 and B2S2 Intake Air Temperature Senso PCM

Put the key into the drivers door.

Press and hold lock or unlock on the key-fob.

Turn the key as though you're opening the door key round to the right.

The lights on the door locks should flash afew times. Your key should now be recoded.

It's all in the owners manual but I think any Post-2001 Audi has this functionality.

you could be leaking engine oil onto the exhaust or it could just be rusty water that is evaporating and causing the smoke.

The 2010 Audi A6 is a gas-powered vehicle.

Its 33 in my A4 so prob the same in A6.

UPDATE: He's right, it's fuse #33 in the A6. Refer to the inside of the fuse box panel for the numbering diagram. If for some reason you don't have the fuse panel diagram, you can find the "number" of each fuse slot by looking at the empty slots. On my 1998 Audi A6, the 11, 16 and 17 fuse slots are empty, so I used their locations to predict the numbering pattern. As luck had it, the 15 amp fuse in the #33 slot had a different "font" than the other fuses. This told me that it had been replaced in the past. I pulled it out and sure enough, it was blown. It's under the hood near the windshield. Lift up the small panel right in the middle to inspect or clean the posts. To remove the battery you remove the entire plastic panel--remove the weather strip (it just slips on) about 10 inches from the windshield, slide the full-width plastic panel toward the front of the car and remove it.
