Well in my opinion I think they are both great dogs but if you have little kids I would recommend a golden, they are great with kids so are Australian shepards but you need lots of space for them to run

My dog is half Aussie Shepherd and border collie and yes they will protect you and the house. They are very protective of their owners, they have really good hearing and agility, they train well, they are very friendly around owners families and people the owner will introduce them to. Once the pet senses no harm it will go to that person. Of course it will bark when anyone is near the house, my pet is on the alert at all time. They do not like to lay around as they are active dogs.

The "lethal whites" happen when a merle dog is bred with another merle. This can happen with any breed of dog that carries the merle gene, not just Australian shepherds.

No one can tell you the breed of your dog without seeing a picture. Even so, it is hard to tell when your dog is still a puppy. Wait until your Dog is fully grown then take a picture and ask around. (I could give you a good idea of what breed it is if I could see a picture).

My family's dog was a Blue Merle Australian Shepherd. She would have been 16 today but was put to sleep several months ago. She was born June 24th, 1993 and put to sleep February 4th, 2009 which would make her lifespan 15 years, 7 months and 11 days. To our knowledge, she was the oldest Australian Shepherd to ever live. We have contemplated submitting her records to some sort of official organization, but so far have not. I have a Blue Merle Australian Shepherd named Sasha. She was born on June 9, 1993 and is registered with the Australian Shepherd Club of America, Inc. She turned 16 on June 9, 2009. My vet said she is probably one of the oldest living aussies. We are so blessed to have her.

Well, being a mix probably 12-16 years.

It depends on the dog and how well it has been socialized with cats. Mine, however, loves them. Aussies are herding dogs and therefore more likely to chase cats, but less likely to harm them(Though not impossible). It's best to find out how the individual dog would react.

I'm not sure where all you're searching to find one, but you may consider looking in other places. Some suggestions would be the classifieds section in your local papers, Craigslist and eBay.

I haven't had any major problems with my 97' gmc. Everything problem was pretty small except for replacing the heater core. Like any old vehicle replacing the breaks and roters is common. Pretty much all the things mechanics or auto part stores tell you to do after so many miles are the things you need to do.
