Their name is based on the philosophy of, "what goes around comes around." M. Shadows got it from the biblical story of God's wrath upon Cain for killing his brother Abel.

Quote: "Therefore whoever slayeth, Cain vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold."b

From a7xam28 it also says "then Cain shall be Avenged Sevenfold"

Is the word Avenged Sevenfold in the Bible?

Blackrose0593: No they are not. They do have a few songs with content from Bible Stories, but the band its self is not Christian.

NicoleXXLynne: No, Avenged Sevenfold is not Christian. Yes, the band name itself comes from the Bible but the band is not Christian.

sparkey08: No. Avenged Sevenfold is not Christian. like blackrose0593 and nicoleXXlynne wrote. The name or the content comes from the Bible, but it does not mean it's a Christian band. Do you really think God Himself is happy with the words? If they were a Christian band, the bad lyrics would not be in there. Listen to other christian rock artists and you will see that their content is not even close to Avenged Sevenfold's content. All this to say ... they are not a Christian band.

To Answer this question, we must examine the evidence: # Their name: Avenged Sevenfold. This is a vague reference to Genesis 4, in which God placed a mark on Cain the murderer to protect him from those who would attempt to avenge the death of his brother by slaying him. What might such a reference mean? Some fans might just take it at face value - a cool sounding moniker with a "Christian" connotation. But this is very likely not the case. You see, the mark of Cain and its subsequent sevenfold vengeance are referenced elsewhere in the Bible as representative of man's rebellion against God. For example, by referring to Cain's sevenfold vengeance later in Genesis 4, Lamech (also a murderer and God-hater as well as a descendant of Cain) brazenly brags to his wives of his own senseless murders, claiming that he has outdone Cain in wickedness and that God will avenge him seventy times sevenfold. This statement, which maligns the character of God, is characteristic of the anti-God rebellion of Cain's line. Cain and his descendants are those who throughout history and throughout the Bible represent all that is evil in the world. (For example, in Jude 1:11 when people are denounced for going in "the way of Cain"; also Cain is known in 1 John 3:12 as "that wicked one.") So right off the bat, Avenged Sevenfold is identifying itself with the wickedness of Cain by claiming also to be avenged sevenfold. Granted, this may just be an ill-informed decision made by the band - a byproduct of faulty research - or simply the band's flawed attempt to express their own imperfect condition, but in light of the other evidence, this is not extremely likely. # Next, let us take a look at their artwork, which like many other bands' centers around skeletons and skulls (including their well-known "bat-skull" logo). Now I know there are many bands with this style of artwork, and I am certainly not going to "judge a band by its cover," but in considering the evidence, I think it is important to note Proverbs 8:26, which states that "all they that hate me love death." Personally, I don't believe that everyone who surrounds himself with skull artwork necessarily is a "hater of God," but this is certainly a piece of evidence to be considered in determining whether this band is "antiChristian." # The band's website features more skeletons, as well as green fire, knives, and breast nudity - not to mention profanity and the band's catchphrase "Let's start the killing." # Most of our judgments ought to be based on the lyrics, however. And in certain songs - many songs - there are enough references to the Bible to make them sound almost a Christian band. But we must realize that merely referencing - even quoting - bible verses is something even Satan does (see Matthew 4; Luke 4), as do his followers in Satanist music. For example, Diamanda Galas (known for such lines as "To thee, O Satan, glory be and praise,...Grant that my soul, one day, beneath the tree of knowledge, may rest near thee" from her Litanies of Satan album) released an album called The Divine Punishment, the lyrics of which were nothing more than direct recitations of Old Testament scripture, with the exception of the song "Sono l'Antichristo" (Italian for "I am the Antichrist"). Obviously therefore, simply quoting scripture is not enough to show that a band is not antiChristian; on the contrary, those bands who quote scripture to such extent as does Avenged Sevenfold are generally either explicitly Christian or blatantly Satanist. So which is this band? Let's take a look at their lyrics: A Little Piece of Heaven (includes s- and f-words, tells of the maniacal and cannibalistic murder of a girlfriend whom the sleeps with, kills, and then eats her heart and eyes. He then has sex with her corpse. She comes back from the dead and does the same process to him, they reconcile in hell, and return to murder people back on earth) Afterlife(has a man telling God he wants to leave heaven and return to earth - as though humans could order God about - and then expects Him to allow him entrance again to "this afterlife" when he deems "the time is right" for him to leave earth) The Beast and the Harlot(borrows from Revelation's telling of the destruction of Babylon, but from the perspective of one on his way to hell. The video for this song features much unrepentant drinking and barely clad females) Chapter Four(Once again borrows from the Bible (Genesis 4), but sympathize with Cain and against God's just - and in fact merciful - punishment) Scream(similar in tone to "A Little Piece of Heaven," this violent vampiric tale of sex - and quite possibly rape - greedily speaks of tasting someone's blood) Bat Country(this entire song is about someone high on illegal drugs) Brompton Cocktail(references alcohol in an appealing manner) Burn It Down(nothing more than a spouting forth of anger, hatred, and excessive profanity) Critical Acclaim (TONS of profanity - pi--, f---, motherf-----, a--h----, d---ed, f---ing, etc.) Crossroads (the singer ponders Christianity and atheism and condemns both - side note: Satanists might very well do this, but neither Christians nor even ATHEISTS would) Dancing Dead (purposely vague and ambiguous, could easily be interpreted as to promote the party mentality, "So what if we're dead (doomed), let's party!" Unfortunately, this is the attitude of many of this band's fans - drink, carouse, have fun...all the way to hell) Darkness Surrounding (speaks of black cats and enjoying feeling the thoughts of the dead) Demons(speaks of Karma - which is NOT Biblical - and states in opposition to Jesus' words in John 8:32b, that "truth won't help you now") Desecrate Through Reverence (finds a savior rejecting and showing contempt for seekers, spitting in the face of all that the Bible says. side note: this song's title expresses just what this band is doing to Christianity - pretending to revere it and thereby desecrating it's respectable name) Eternal Rest (seems to indicate that those who live for faith will be abandoned by God to the flames regardless - and yes, the title is being sarcastic) Girl I Know (about a prostitute/slutty girl and the fun she brings when you "take off her clothes" and "sin with her") Remenissions (discusses whether God exists, doubtfully examining the evidence, and decides that it is impossible to know - something Christians would never do) Seize the Day (speaks to a girl of making love like its your last night on earth, then asks her if she would commit suicide with him. His only concern is not whether they would go to hell after killing themselves, but whether they might end up with no afterlife at all - a very nonChristian idea) Sidewinder (this cold-blooded - pardon the pun - song is apparently sung from the perspective of a poisonous snake hunting for people to kill) Strength of the World (After his family is murdered, a man tells God that he refuses to forgive and goes on a murderous - and possibly suicidal - rampage of vengeance) The Art of Subconscious Illusion(ambiguous as a whole, but contains descriptive references to rape. Also, a killer regrets that, as he razorblades his victims, he can only take their lives and not their souls as well. umm...sicko!!!) The Wicked End (Much like "The Beast and the Harlot," this song tells of the Last Day from the perspective of a 666-follower, urging listeners - much like Satan would - to "Dust the apple off, savor each bite / And deep inside you know Adam was right." This is not "nonChristian"... this is ANTICHRISTian!) Trashed and Scattered (Like tons of their other songs, this one is littered with heavy profanity - g--d--- motherf------, s---, f---in(g), etc. The singer also mentions raping, and desires to "be the first to cast a stone" see John 8:7 for Jesus' answer to this sentiment) Turn the Other Way (a blasphemous and suicidal tale of God's worthlessness and his rejection of the penitent sinner) Unholy Confessions (contains graphic, if metaphorical, descriptions of choking a person) Until the End (the singer reminisces of drinking and going to jail with his friends and states that he would do it again) The above are just a few of the songs which prove that if nothing else, Avenged Sevenfold is NOT a Christian band and in fact the majority of their lyrics are diametrically opposed to Scripture. These proofs do not show that Avenged Sevenfold (who sport tattoos, thick gothic makeup, and such unusual monikers as M. Shadows, Synyster Gates, Zacky Vengeance, Johnny Christ and The Rev) are Satanists necessarily, but there is certainly nothing to disprove that claim either. Certainly Satan (as he is portrayed in both the Christian and Satanist Bible) is pleased with this band's messages. Just look at the facts. Whether knowingly or not, Avenged Sevenfold is fighting on Satan's side, against God. Satanists would see this as a good thing. Christians would see this as a very bad thing. But either way, these are the facts. Now it's up to you to determine what you're going to do about it.Is_the_band_%27Avenged_Sevenfold%27_christian

Did Johnny Christ get married?

No, Johnny Christ did not get married. He is single as of 2011.

What is the message behind Avenged Sevenfold's lyrics?

This track was formerly titled 'Fast Melodic', based simply on it's fast tempo, and melodic tunes. M. Shadows explains, "We wanted to make a song that kind of reminded us of our old school stuff - kinda like Second Heartbeat-ish, where it's more punk-driven." The Rev adds, "The lyrics are really impacting," as the song is based primarily on war. "The song is about mankind just always being obsessed with war. That's just how it kinda is. Y'know, there's people who preach for peace and stuff, it's a really nice thought, but mankind has always been based on war, and conquering… and you always know that empires will crumble and there'll be another war to be rule of supreme," says Shadows, describing the basis for the song.
