What do you wear under a leotard?

It depends on the person. (This is assuming for a practice or rehersal. For performances, a costume director should tell you what needs to be worn and how.) Some will wear tights under a leotard to cover their legs. This can be full length, as in covereing their feet, while others might wear them to the ankles. Dancers can also wear mid-calf or knee-length tights under a letorad, too. Similarly, some chose to wear a dance short that covers their shoulder and to about 1/2 down their upper arm or to their elbow. Dancers might also wear a dance skirt over the bottom of the leotard, if it is allowed.

For actually under the leotard, as in undergarments, that varries greatly. Dancers choose if they wish to wear underwear, and many opt for smaller, less-showing dance underwear or thongs. Often, leotards can be worn without a bra, but only for thsoe with smaller-sized chests or if it provides enough support. Some dancers choose not to wear underwear because it shows through, too.

so be naked under!

What is the approximate salary for a professional dancer?

Median hourly earnings of dancers were $8.54 in May 2004. The middle 50 percent earned between $6.71 and $15.62. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $5.87, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $21.59. Annual earnings data for dancers were not available, because of the wide variation in the number of hours worked by dancers and the short-term nature of many jobs-which may last for 1 day or 1 week-made it extremely rare for dancers to have guaranteed employment that exceeded 3 to 6 months. Median hourly earnings in the industries employing the largest number of dancers were as follows:

Performing arts companies $14.82

Other schools and instruction 14.94

Drinking places, alcoholic beverages 6.78

Other amusement and recreation industries 7.68

Median annual earnings of salaried choreographers were $33,670 in May 2004. The middle 50 percent earned between $21,530 and $48,940. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $14,980, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $68,190. Median annual earnings were $34,090 in "other schools and instruction," a North American Industry Classification System category that includes dance studios and schools.

Dancers who were on tour usually received an additional allowance for room and board, as well as extra compensation for overtime. Earnings from dancing are usually low because employment is part year and irregular. Dancers often supplement their income by working as guest artists with other dance companies, teaching dance, or taking jobs unrelated to the field.

Earnings of dancers at many of the largest companies and in commercial settings are governed by union contracts. Dancers in the major opera ballet, classical ballet, and modern dance corps belong to the American Guild of Musical Artists, Inc. of the AFL-CIO; those who appear on live or videotaped television programs belong to the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists; those who perform in films and on television belong to the Screen Actors Guild; and those in musical theater are members of the Actors' Equity Association. The unions and producers sign basic agreements specifying minimum salary rates, hours of work, benefits, and other conditions of employment. However, the contract each dancer signs with the producer of the show may be more favorable than the basic agreement.

Most salaried dancers and choreographers covered by union contracts receive some paid sick leave and various health and pension benefits, including extended sick pay and family-leave benefits provided by their unions. Employers contribute toward these benefits. Dancers and choreographers not covered by union contracts usually do not enjoy such benefits.

How long after you start ballet can you dance Demi pointe?

If you are talking about demi pointe shoes (otherwise known at soft blocks) your teacher may recommend you to wear them. I recently got my demi pointe shoes and have been taking ballet classes for just over a year (now at grade 4). Mine were very uncomfortable at first, but you just have to break them in, just like you would for a regular pointe shoe. If in any doubt talk to you ballet teacher, they could give you some advice about whether you should need soft blocks.

Also if you are taking RAD intermediate exams, I believe it is compulsory to have demi pointe shoes. Not completely sure though, i would double check.

Good luck and hope this was some help to you:)

Honestly you can't. I have a small mark on my point shoes from when I was sewing my riboons on. The only suggestion I have is soap and water. That should make the color fade a little bit

I am a young dancer. I have had my pointe shoes for about 3 or 4 years. I wear Capezio Arias size 6 and a half XXX and I have narrow feet with a high arch. I need to find the right shoes?

Hi,

I would like to give some further advice. I spent years trying to find the right pointe shoe and I now have plenty of knowledge. It does depend on your foot, but generally, Capezios aren't well made. I wore the Arias for one class, and I immediately realized they were completely lopsided. In other words, the platform wasn't straight, but, instead, in a total diagonal. Very odd. I thought they were defective, but every pair I have had, there seems to be another problem. For your foot, I would recommend Russian Pointes based on the information you provided. They have many different styles to choose from for narrow feet. I would also recommend to get a flexible shank because they are great for high arches. They provide flexibility to show off your arches, but they won't break easily. I believe they provide flexible soft, flexible medium, and flexible hard. If you could message me at Tedroxie0222 to give me some more information so I could recommend further that would be great. I need to know how strong your foot is, the length of your toes, if your toes are tapered or straight, your street shoe size, and if you need a low, medium, or high crown. Russian Pointes have so many options and can fit many feet. I wear them and I must say they are a completely different feel from Capezios, Blochs, etc. At first, I hated them, but once you get used to them, you'll be in heaven. I encourage you to at least try, but please do message me, so I could give you advice on styles, vamps, crowns, shanks, and sizes. About the bruised toenail thing, I am wondering what pads you use or if you use any at all. Please let me know this information, as well. You also said that the bruised toenail recently happened. Have you recently changed your toe pad? It could also be that pointe is always changing your foot. One month the Arias could be the perfect shoe and another they could be totally wrong. It's possible that your foot changed and the crown is now too low. Or it could have been a problem all along, but it recently became noticeable. This could be a result of a low crown, too much padding, no padding, or too hard of a shank. Lots of info... I know. Pointe's like rocket science. Lol. But please message me at Tedroxie0222.

1. Juliet Pointe shoes are good size XX or XXX size 4 or 4.5.

2. Mirella academy pointe shoes size 4.5 X

3. Sansha "recital" Shoes size 8 Narrow

have you gone in for a shoe fitting? it's likely that your arch is making the shoe worse, which will make your toes hurt. could it be maybe that you broke them in wrong? because that's what happened to me, and i had to go buy a completely different pair. the second pair fit my foot better because i have a high arch and i needed a REALLY strong shank. so remember that just because it may be expensive doesn't mean that's its the best for your foot. after all, everyone's foot is different :) message me if you need any more help? :P yayadolll

Why when you are doing your left and right splits does your back leg turn into your middle splits how do you prevent this?

There is no way to prevent this. However, this means that you need to stretch out your left and right split. Doing this would normally take two months, but since you are already able to do your middle split, being able to do your left and right split should only take about a month. You should stretch your left split for 10 minutes, ond your right split for 10 as well.
