What do you use as a lubricant for hair clippers?
Short answer: 3-In-One Multi Purpose Oil. It's a light weight oil (low viscosity) that allows it to seep in between the blades and do the job. Make sure you get some on the back anvil area of the blades as well. Wherever there's metal to metal contact there must be lubricant to avoid premature wear and overheating. Blot up any excess with a paper towel.
Do NOT use WD-40. It does not have the "staying power" to keep protecting the blades. It also does not have the same resistance to heat that 3-In-One has.
Others have suggested cooking oil. I'm not sure about how well it would work, but it certainly has enough heat resistance to give it a try if you have nothing else.
I just picked up a spray can of Slick50 lubricant at Ace Hardware. It's in a bright red can. I used it on an old computer cooling fan that was not spinning freely and it did an amazing job of fixing it. I will try it on my clippers next time I groom my dog and post an update.
It is best to use the branded clipper oil that is designed for clippers. An important part of the work done by clipper oil is that it cleans out the small hairs that are very abrasive.

You can dye your bangs along with the rest of your hair, but if you are dying them yourself be sure to keep the bangs and the dye pushed back and out of your eyes. If you want to dye only the bangs, have a stylist do it for you, they will likely use foils or another highlighting technique.
