The Tampa Bay Devil Rays first year in the American League was 1998. In 2008 the name was changed to Rays.

From the Hebrew name אַהֲרֹן ('Aharon) which is most likely of unknown Egyptian origin. Other theories claim a Hebrew derivation, and suggest meanings such as "high mountain" or "exalted".In the Old Testament Aaron was the older brother of Moses and the first high priest of the Israelites.

Orel Hershiser, a righthander who pitched with several teams between 1983-2000 but spent the majority of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, holds the MLB record for scoreless innings pitched with 59 between August 30 and September 28 in the 1988 season. Hershiser currently can be seen broadcasting games on ESPN.

Sam Rice of the Washington Senators was 40 years old when he got 207 base hits in the 1930 season. He was born February 20, 1890.

Paul Molitor of the Minnesota Twins turned 40 years old in the 1996 season when he had 225 base hits. He was born August 22, 1956.

In early 1999 Andres Galarraga, then playing with the Atlanta Braves, was diagonosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. He missed the entire 1999 season but came back in 2000 and played until 2003.

In 1997 Eric Davis, then with the Baltimore Orioles, was diagnosed with colon cancer. Davis came back to the team at the end of the season while still in treatment. His 1998 season was one of the best of his career as he hit .327 with 28 home runs. Davis retired after the 2001 season.

In 1996 Brett Butler, then playing with the Los Angeles Dodgers, was diagnosed with cancer of the tonsils. The tumor was surgically removed and he too came back at the end of the season. Butler retired after the 1997 season.

In 1998 Darryl Strawberry, then with the New York Yankees, was diagnosed with colon cancer. He had surgery to remove the tumor and 24 inches of his colon. He came back in 1999 but played only 24 games and retired at the end of the season.

And most recently, Jon Lester of the Boston Red Sox was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma in September, 2006. He pitched his first ball game since the diagnosis on July 23, 2007. He has pronounced himself cancer-free.

Hector Villanueva wore 19 during the 1991 & 1992 seasons with the Cubs. He wore #32 when he was a rookie in 1990 but the following season the Cubs signed Pitcher Danny Jackson and he wore 32, so Hector switched to #19. Other Cubs who wore 19 were: Manny Trillo Elder White Pat Bourque Hee Seop Choi

The 1927 Yankees, arguably the greatest baseball team of all-time, had a winning percentage of .714 (coincidentally the number of career homeruns by Babe Ruth) by going 110-44. In 1998, they had a winning percentage of .704 with a won-loss record of 114-48.
