What is the significance of the battle of Omaha Beach?

In the end, Allied troops did succeed in penetrating the defenses.

How is the beach form?

Basically, sand is billions of tiny bits of rock that have been washed up by the sea. The sea erodes rocks and takes the tiny pieces, now sand (or stones), to a coastline creating the beach. Unfortunately, now it also washes up debris and rubbish..

Why do different beaches have different types if sand?

Wave action is the culprit

If a headland is being eroded, it will create a rocky beach

Also more powerful waves will deposit larger sediment, so some otherwise beaches will have rocks on the beach, and those rocks will be closest to the water, because heavier sediments will be deposited first, because the wave will lose energy as they slow down

beaches with just sand will have less powerful waves, so the the largest sediment that will be deposited will be grains of sand

Tidal flats have even less powerful waves, in fact there will be next to no waves there and the the largest sediment will be silt and mud

Of course, some beaches are artificial and all the sand is brought to them from elsewhere, or are naturally occurring beaches that are eroding too fast and much of that sand is also brought in from somewhere else and these beaches are often in overdeveloped areas.

How do seashells get on the beach?

The pebbles are flint deposited in the chalk cliffs adjacent to Brighton. Through natural erosion the flints are released from the cliffs and slowly make their way through natural process to Brighton where the groynes are in place to "capture" the pebbles. You can see this in action as you can see a higher level of pebbles to the west of a groyne than on the easterly side.

As the water flow makes the rocks tumble against each other the high spots get chiped off. The tumbling and banging together with small grains of sand will smooth any rock over a long period of time. There must be enough water flow to keep the rocks moving for the process to work.

How far is Anaheim from Laguna Beach?

Depending on where in Anaheim - about an hour. AND that depends on Traffic.

Worse case - take Harbor to PCH and hang a left and follow PCH to Laguna Beach.

And it is PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) not THE PCH. Heard someone on TV say THE PCH in a show recently and knew they were not from Orange County :)

Why are the beaches that are located on the southern shore of long island often considerably cooler than nearby inland locations on hot summer afternoons?

a see breeze develops due to the higher specific heat of water and the lower specific heat of the land. the reason it's because beaches that are located on the southern shore of long island often are considerably cooler than nearby inland location because a sea breeze develops.during the day,the sand at the beach heats faster than the water because the sand has a lower specific heat than the water...the warm air over the beach expands and becomes less dense.cooler denser air from over the water moves from the water to the land cooling the beach area.the sea breeze does not usually reach the interior areas of long island.as a result people go to the beach on summer afternoons to cool off.
