i read that beta males are very territorial. it might just be that the fish is not self aware and believes he is seeing a male that is threatneing. so for him he's just trying to get the other fish scared or to prepare to fight even though there is no other fish.

They can't stay with any fish! DON'T TRY IT! Male bettas will kill the other fish and females might too so don't try it just keep your betta by itself and don't worry about them being lonely. They are solatairy fish, they don't get lonely. If you want more than one betta fish in your bowl get wo females to live with each other but don't put males together or don't pout any other fish with bettas.

Some pairs don't take to each other right away. Match them up with different mates then put them together again and see if she will respond to that particular male Betta.

Yes. I can't find anything wrong with using a microwave to slightly heat up cold water for fish, esp. tropical (warm-water) fish like Bettas. Just make sure to check the temperature with a thermometer and stick to the ideal 70-80-degree range. I'm less sure about heating "treated" water in a microwave (which can contain many varieties of conditioners, medications, etc.), but at the very least treat the water many hours in advance.

well if its a betta fish then yes, two male bettas in one bowl may result in one killing the other. you may also notice that even when there is only one male betta is in a bowl it will try to attack its reflection thinking its another male betta
