What disease do fighting fish get?
I've never heard of a Chinese fighting fish before, so you may mean a Siamese fighting fish. Another name for a Siamese fighting fish is a betta fish. Two major diseases that bettas get are Popeye and Swimbladder disease. Popeye is when a bettas eyes expand and then eventually blow up. Swimbladder disease is caused from poor diet. A bettas body expands, and may look bloated. Their scales may still out, and when this happens, saving them is pretty hopeless. Otherwise, most of these common diseases can be cured if spotted quickly.
How much food does Betta need?
I feed my Betta two or three pieces in the morning and three in the evening. However, if you feed your Betta a bloodworm then feed him the bloodworm and nothing else for the rest of the day. But don't feed him bloodworms too often because he will start to refuse the other food you give him.
How does fertilizer kill fish and other aquatic life?
Fertilizer IS nutrient rich. When it gets into lakes and ponds, it causes massive algae blooms. These massive algae blooms soon die off, contributing to massive amounts of carbon dioxide accumulating in the lake or pond (and thus a decrease in oxygen concentration). Such a decline in oxygen concentration will suffocate fish and thus cause fish kills.
What gives a fish its buoyancy?
May fish have a little air bag inside them called a swim bladder they add or remove air from this sack so that they achieve neutral buoyancy in the water and thus do not have to exert energy to prevent themselves floating or sinking. If you bring a fish from great depth to the surface very quickly, the fish will not have time to remove air from the swim bladder and it will explode, killing the fish.
When divers collect fish at depth, to keep them alive, they have to stop and let air out of the swim bladders (with a needle) on the way up.
How do you get your goldfish to have babies in a fish tank at home?
Its stomach will grow a little in size if you have multiple compare them roughly
Why are goldfish eating other goldfish tails?
to eat it. the reason? I do no know
Edit:
Possibly in order to defend themselves. Normally it's the other way around. If the fry are small enough, goldfish will eat them. Either that, or the babies are naturally aggressive towards the bigger goldfish.
Why would your betta stay still in one place?
The short answer is that he is sick, or he is dying. Those are really the only two causes for a listless Betta. They are normally very active fish. My betta is very, very active. Though she sometimes rests for a few seconds and then swims around once I move. How long does your fish do this for? I can tell my fish is just resting because she is always breathing. Maybe it would help if you checked whether your fish was breathing. Maybe its just doing the same thing as mine but for a little longer. EDIT by Natalie01 to her paragraph: My betta just died recently, and before she did she was staying still for a long time near her plant. She had foggy eyes as a result of a broken fin (My maid had an accident with her when she cleaned her for the first time) and she died peacefully after a super fast round of her bowl. How are your bettas eyes, and are there any other problems? Send me a message when you have an answer. R.I.P Rosy 0000(No idea when)-2008
just keep it at room temperature. If you clean the tank, have your Betta stay in a different container of water and leave the tank full of water (sink water) and keep out for about 5 to 15 minutes. put aquamarin in it and stir.
Can you put sucker fishes with bettas?
Provided the tank is large enough you can put almost any fish with a Male Betta. They will only fight another male of the same species. They do not fight with other species at all. 1 inch of fish needs a minimum of 1 gallon of water. That is the limiting factor. 1 Betta should be housed in a minimum of 3 gallons of water.
Do you have to flush your fish when they die?
Flushing your fish down the toilet is not only cruel and inhumane, but it is also illegal. Flushed fish can survive for hours or even days exposed to horrific conditions and toxic water quality. Flushing sick fish can also contaminate your local water shed with aquatic diseases. This method is never appropriate.
What do betta bubble nests look like?
It looks like a bunch of tiny bubbles bunched together, kinda like foam but the bubbles are about the size of a pin head.
Commercial growers keep a constant supply of food up to growing fry. Keeping their tummies full is what you have to do. So it's not about how many times to feed them. It's about keeping the food up to them but not letting it pollute the water.
How do you tell if it is a male or female Siamese fighting fish?
look at the color... if its bright and colorful its a male. if its colorless its a female.
Can i use tap water and boil it for betta fish?
Betta's are a very strange type of fish. For most fish putting them into previously boiled water would kill them, boiling water removes the oxygen vital for life. However, Betta have a special organ that lets them breath atmospheric air. Which means every now and then bettas will go up to the surface to get air. So maybe there is a chance of a BETTA surviving since it would not rely on the air in the water.
What do you do if a betta fish is sick?
You can tell they are healthy if they:
- Eat regularly and normally
- Have a bright color
- Swim with ease
- Are somewhat active
To KEEP your pet heathly clean his/her cage regularly and feed him regularly too! He will live many, happy years if you take good care of him!
Can a female betta live with 2 goldfiish?
In theory, yes.
It is possible if Goldfish are similar sized to the Betta as a temporary measure. They shouldn't fight or bother each other, but their ideal temperature ranges are very different.
Goldfish are very heavy on a filter load as they produce a lot of waste for their size which could cause an other problem.
Female Bettas don't have the long fins like their male counterparts but they still don't like strong currents which you may have to have to control the waste cycle through the filter to keep the tank balanced.
It's not recommended to keep these species together if you want them both to thrive.
Larger Goldfish may also attempt to eat smaller Betta Females so this also needs to be considered.
Can 2 baby betta fish be put together?
The first few days or so they can be kept with the male - which is the one that tends to the nest, not the female - but you must remove them afterwards else the betta can mistake them for food. Since females do not tend the nests they are more likely to eat their fry, however on some rare occasions they will tend to the nest too, but it is not common.
You shouldn't leave the female with the fry, the females kill the fry when they are hatched, that's why the male kills the female after the spawn. It would be best if, when spawning, you keep the female in a breeder or a tall glass in a 5 and more gallon tank. When the male is finished with his bubble nest take the female out so they can do there magic, which really means the male squeezes the eggs from the females body. You have to make sure the female isn't too small or he could kill her. And after that you should but the female in a tank so she can recover. Leave the the male with the fry (baby fish) for 2-4 days after that remove him. When the male fries get older they tend to be aggressive and larger, it would be best if you put the fries in a large cup each so you don't risk one fry killing its sibling. BUT if you single out the males only the female fries should live in peace for a while unless they are as aggressive as a male. I hope i helped you =D (please do not delete)
Can different breed of fish mate?
If you are refering to the different 'types' of goldfish eg Shubunkin and Lionhead yes they can breed with one another. The reason for this is that they are all developed by selection from the same species (Carassius auratus) so since they are the same 'species' they can breed together.
How many times can a betta fish give birth?
A female betta fish can lay up to a 400 eggs at a time - depending on the age and health of the fish- but only a few (5-30) of these are actually fertilized by the male. Once laid, the male pretty much takes over the "spawning" (care) until the baby bettas are born.
What should you do if your betta fish is dying?
For mine, sometimes if you give it a treat or something like a cucumber slice, it works!!
I would try to take him out of the tank and put him in a cup or something. I will get him away from the other fish so they won't eat him.
Why is your goldfish floating diagonally?
The fish is so ill it is dying but hasn't got there yet. Try changing its water a few times but make sure the temperature of the new water is the same as the old water. You just may save its life. If you do save it, remember to change its water regularly and never let food go rotten in the tank.
Can bettas live in betta bowls?
Bettas can live in bowls because they are labyrinth fish, meaning they can gulp air to get their oxygen. HOWEVER....bettas should not be kept in anything smaller than a 1 gallon container. How you see them in the pet store is NOT how they should live the rest of their lives.
Can you put a frog and a betta together?
No. Frogs should be kept in a "VIVARIUM"(part water and part dry sand/rocks etc) not an aquarium. Bettas should be kept in a minimum of 3 gallons of water (a 5 gallon tank is ideal) and they should also have a cycled filter and a heater/thermostat set at 79F.
