Can pet finches eat fruit?

The parents will feed them. The parents eat the seeds and chew them. They spit it out and give it to the babies. Do not worry about them, just give a little bit more seeds so that the parents have enough food.

What causes parakeets to suddenly die?

In order to answer this question properly one needs to know more specifics about the particular bird. In a young bird, perhaps disease brought home from a pet shop could be a culprit. If the bird is a bit older it could be related to diet. Parakeets fed only seeds develop are susceptible to developing tumors and those often are the cause of death in a bird around the age of two. Perhaps the use of non-stick pots and pans in the kitchen, candles, cleaning agents, sprays could all be suspect. A gas leak of some kind possibly.

Birds seldom die suddenly, in the wild a sick bird will be targeted by predators or by the flock, so birds will hide signs of illness until it is to late.

Green Chillies should never be fed to any bird regardless of his origin or ancestry makeup.

How do you clean a budgie?

They can clean themselves, unless they are excessively dirty. You can get a bird bath from the pet store or a store like WalMart that attaches to the bird cage. If they can't get clean enough, if they are tame enough, you can let a budgie have a bath in the kitchen sink, in shallow water. Do NOT use soap of any kind, unless you find some at a pet store or somewhere that says it is specifically for birds. Human soaps will hurt them.

How can you tell if your parakeet is going to die?

A health parakeet will have shiny feathers, clear eyes, shiny beak, and a cere that is free of drainage. A fluffed parakeet that sits at the bottom of the cage is very sick and needs attention immediately.

Is it OK to put two female parakeets in one cage?

Yes. A male and a female cockatiel would be best to share a cage. If you put two males or two females together, they may fight. You don't have to worry about a male and a female breeding if they are in the same cage. Cockatiels won't breed unless there is a nesting box attached to the cage.

Where is the natural habitat of a parakeet?

There are hundreds of varieties of parrots around the world, and they can be found in all habitats except for the Arctic and Antarctic. Parrots are found in tropical rainforests, temperate rainforests, deserts (in Australia), grasslands, sub-alpine areas, open forest, closed forest, wet and dry sclerophyll, suburban backyards, and so on. They are found in warmer climates.

Why do birds have to keep their eggs a certain heat?

When birds lay eggs they usually sit on them and keep them warm. Just like when a human is pregnant, our baby stays warm inside our body. If we freeze to death outside, our baby would die. If the eggs aren't kept at the temperature of the parents they wont be warm enough and they baby birds will not grow inside.

Can you house 2 male zebra finches together?

you can but they may fight and seriously injure each other or one may be picked on by the other some more serious results of bullying are broken jaws and the bullied finch may pluck its feathers out ect. i would advise housing two females instead although they may not look as good they will get along better than two malezs

I have two male zebra finches that have been together for a long time and they are best friends. They occasionally fight, but they make up quickly and they have neever hurt each other.

How to tell a parakeet's gender?

i have always known it to be the color of the band right above the beak,,: if it is blue color it is a male and if it is a pinkish color it is a girl

The band can also be a purple color in which case is a male, or a brown or whit color which is a female. I have two parakeets.

How do you stop your parakeet from pecking?

I have been reading so much about parakeets lately and I read that it may be because of lack of exercise. So try to take your parakeets out of their cage once in a while. You can also try putting some new toys in their cage and introducing new toys once they get tierd of the old one.

How do you clip parakeet wings?

You clip a parakeets wings the way you do any other birds. You hold tall of the wing feathers in one hand then you have to look for the 6 non-nerve feathers there is only 6 on each wing but to be safe I would suggest that you bring your parakeet to the vet they will do it for most likely around $30.00 which is not to bad compard to if you cut the wrong wing and had to go to the vet for an emergency.

NO NO NO!!! Take it to a little place I take my bird called, The Bird Shop. Look for it in the phone book. They will clip small bird's wings for only $3.00 and clip their nails for only $2.00. MUCH BETTER THAN DOING IT YOURSELF!!!

Can parakeets eat a hamster food like sunflower seeds?

They should not eat salted sunflower seeds, the salt is toxic and can kill them.

Either buy unsalted seeds or wash them with warm water for a while . Parakeets are very small so too much salt could add up quickly in them, and too many sunflower seeds may be to much fat as well.

Just try a couple unsalted.
