What is a parakeet's cere?

It's the little colored band above their beak with the two little holes in it. You can tell a male and a female apart by the color of the cere once the birds are older. The cere will be blue if it is a boy and pinkish brown if it is a girl. The colors will change often when they are under 6 months old, but when they are about that age the color will settle. A cere is the nose

Your green cheek conure bites you but not your husband?

Is the bird male or female? If the bird is male, it is more a matter of disipline than likeableness. If the bird is female- think for a minute. Imagine many women, you unmarried and they too, and one male. Also, if the bird is between 2-3 1/2, then it is at a nippy stage. If it is new, it may be a bad habbit. Or stress. Or how you treat it. Just think about it. ( Similair experience with my Dad and the Girls in the family, a male and female Green Cheek Conuures)

Can you breed a canary in a cage?

Yes. They will breed best in a flight cage, a cage big enough for them to fly from perch to perch.

How do you hatch fertile parrot bird eggs?

To hatch fertile parrot eggs, ensure they are kept in a warm, stable environment with a temperature around 99-100°F (37-38°C) and humidity levels between 50-60%. Use an incubator or allow the parent birds to incubate them, as they provide the necessary warmth and humidity. Rotate the eggs gently every few days to promote even development. After about 18-24 days, depending on the species, the eggs should begin to hatch.

How do I trim an African gray's nails?

Carefully (ha, ha) I would suggest, if you have never done so - call around to some pet stores that sell birds or a vet and see how much they charge. Usually it is not very much to do this and is safer for you or the bird. Generally they will use a towel and hold the bird on it's back. As you have to be careful not to injure the bird - it is better to have someone who knows what they are doing assist you or show you the proper way. You can also trim their flight feathers during this procedure as well and check their beaks to ensure they are okay too. --- Regarding the above thoughtful answer, I agree that professionals do this job more effectively. However, many birds are heavily stressed by travelling to the vet. IN our case, I think we risked more injury to the bird by not doing nail trims at home. Different birds, though, may not be as affected. Note that it's a good idea to have some styptic powder around when you do this. Psiticines have large blood vessels in their claws and, if you cut too deeply, you can open the vessel, which often doesn't clot easily. The powder is to stop the bleeding before the bird is injured. We used a dog nail clipper on our Amazon, and it worked well. Remember though: Better to leave the nails a little too long than to cut too deeply and hurt the bird.

What are the 3 most important things to know about caring for birds?

Off the top of my head, these are the three that i thought of. Feel free to contribute!

Space- Make sure that the area you are going to keep your bird is big enough. A parrot requires more space than a parakeet, for example. The cage also needs to be big enough, too. Make sure your bird can move around! If you are getting multiple birds, plan accordingly.

Time- Taking care of any animal requires some time. If you want a realtionship with your bird, you need to take a little time to play with it or have interaction of some kind. Birds can do alright by themselves for a little while, but they still need a companion. If you are not going to be around a lot, i would recommend getting two.

Cleanliness- A lot of bird sicknesses can happen because of a dirty environment. I'm not saying that you have to have perfectly clean room all of the time, but make sure that you keep the bird cage clean. Food and water should be cleaned everyday and the cage should be cleaned regularly.

I hope this helps!

What kind of temperature do canaries like?

Canaries like moderate temperatures. Room temperature is fine. They can handle cold temperatures as well, as long as they are not in a draft. I kept my birds on an unheated enclosed porch with great success. I brought them inside for breeding.

What happens if a white dove's tail feathers have been pulled out?

How long does it take the chick to start eating after hatching Thank you lol?

generally they start looking for food after 1 or 2 days, this is because after they hatch they still have the yolk inside them and are gaining nutrients from that, but after 1-2 days they have absorbed it and need to find food

Why are the Zebra Finches' perches turning red?

It could possibly be blood- are there reddish brown splotches on the perches? If so, they might have a foot injury. Watch them closely for signs of unusual behavior, and if they appear to be in pain, take them to a vet.

For sanitation purposes, you'll want to wash those perches.

How can you differ between a male and a female baby bird from its physical appearance?

My parents are bird owners and I've helped raise babies for a few years and honestly The only way to know a male from a female is if u get a DNA test. Sometimes males will be more colorful, and bigger but that doesn't mean its always going to be a male bird.

To DNA test a bird all u do is trim their toe nail a lil bit shorter and get it to bleed a tiny bit and u put a drop of blood on the DNA test card and mail it in.
