If you take the birth control pill for a couple of days then stop can that help you get pregnant?

No, it may actually lessen your chances and it's not good for you.

==========

I agree. The pill STOPS you from ovulating. Although It can take up to ten days to work, still, the pill would start to work and begin to stop you from ovulating. You may even ovulate later now.

Can you still be pregnant even after you get your period?

Here are some personal experiences:

I was one month pregnant and I had my period the next month. While my mother was pregnant with me she had all her periods except the last three months.

After having what I thought was a normal 6-7 day period at my regular level of flow, I had a surprise miscarriage earlier this year. It happened on what I thought was the 18th day of my cycle (but I was actually 6 weeks pregnant.) We had been trying to conceive for about 6 months, and it was the first cycle in which I hadn't taken a pregnancy test on the morning my period was due. To save money, I made myself wait to see if my period was "late" before taking the test. Since I got what looked like a normal period, I never used the test. Now I test every time! It's 4 months later and we are still trying, now seeing a specialist!

They say 'when you miss a period that this is a sign that you are pregnant' this is not always the case. I have had three pregnancies, including one live birth and one lost. The first pregnancy I had two periods with, the second pregnancy I had four periods with and this pregnancy I had the first two. It's always tough to know as well because tests will say negative if you are still having a period.

Doctors would disagree, but I had 5 periods when pregnant with my last child. Yes, the normal (for me) 35 day cycle, and 10 day bleeding. The doctors will tell you "you can't get your period while ovulating" yet MANY women have occasional (or even frequent) cycles without ovulation. I also have endometriosis, so may have had something to do with it. I was told by a doctor my endo wouldn't "grow" or bother me while pregnant. He was wrong, too.

Could you be pregnant if last month you missed your period but this month you had one?

Maybe. If it was a full normal period this month, you are probably not pregnant. But if it was light and short, you are probably pregnant. That was probably bleeding from the placenta implanting. That happens during some pregnancies and nothing is wrong. You shold take a home test or go see a doctor to be sure if you are or aren't.

Can you have cervical mucus on the pill?

I was wondering the same thing. I've been on otrtho tricylen for 2yrs. I think it is possible because I have "normal" or "common" changes in my cervical mucus as well. During the second week after my period it is very thin and clear but a couple days before my period it gets thicker. I believe I am ovulating on the pill. If this is anything like what you've experienced I think it's possible. .

If you're taking a combination pill which consists of estrogen and progesterone, it can thicken the cervical mucus, further preventing your chances of pregnancy.

What if you take the birth control pill one hour late?

I have asked this question to my doctor before and she said no, that is not necessary. She told me that taking the pill 4 hours late is when you should be starting to worry, but one hour is ok. If you're like me though, you hate being late at all.

well 1 hr is you do not have to worry.

Is it possible? Yes. Is it likely? No.

Combination birth control pills are ideally taken within 4 hours of your designated time. BUT it's best if you take it the same time everyday. DO NOT assume that you can take it 4 hours late because of that. You don't want to take chances if you do not use alternate forms of protection. Missing the pill by one hour for one day will not increase your chances of getting pregnant.

Remember the pill is about 98% effective. and women who do get pregnant on the pill are women who don't take it on time everyday. You can't mess around with your body.

But you are fine, I promise. So relax(:

An hour should not make a difference. Most medications have an hour leeway before and after the "scheduled" time.

Taking the birth control pill an hour late does not increase the risk of pregnancy.

Certainly.

Nothing happens. You are still fine. The insert inside your medication will tell you that too.You are actually still covered if you miss one day of birth control (don't ever do this purposely. I'm using this to prove a point) you are supposed to take your pill at the same general time everyday. This gives you about a 2 hour window. Of course the best way to do it, it the exact same time. But what I'm saying is your body is not going to freak out and not work properly over one hour. The drug is still in your system.

No you'll be fine.

Yes they tell you to take the pill around the same time each day so that you are getting a constant flow of hormones in your body and to also help you remember to take the pills an hour is perfectly fine you are still safe but if you are really worried about it just use a backup method for a week or so , Good Luck and God Bless!!

Contributors have recommended:

  • Yes, I'm sure you'll be fine. Early is better than late. And an hour won't usually matter anyway.
  • As long as you take the pill about the same time everyday, you are protected.

Yes you can use the MAP as a second source but missing your BCP by one hour is not missing your pill.

for 1 hour it doesnt really make a difference, the biggest problem is usually for more than 12. That, however doesnt mean that it is safe to take the pill 12 hours late! So try keep an alarm

Are there herbs you can take to help prevent pregnancy?

It is said that you can use wild yam as birth control. You want to drink a tea made of it at least 3 times a day. Do a google search on it and you should find more info. You can contact a Midwife and talk to them about natural birth control. * There are herbs that might prevent ovulation, or delay it. check our www.susanweed.com for info in herbs. Wild yam, itself, DOES NOT prevent pregnancy. Wild yam can be chemically altered to mimic progesterone (progestin). This can be bought at a health-food store, as a cream, and does work as effective birth control.

What could be wrong if you started your period a week early while on birth control and a pregnancy test was negative?

Wow when I saw this I got all happy because the EXACT same thing happened to me. I'm on the birth control patch..I have been for almost 9 months and never had a problem up until this month. I'm supposed to get my period during the 4th week (my patch free week) but it came a week early, while still being on my last patch. I talked to my gyno. and she said I should be totally completely fine, as should you. I too took a pregnancy test and luckilly it said I wasn't pregnant. So I think our bodies might just be acting a little funny at this particular time or you just started your birth control, if you did then this is even more normal.

Where can you buy birth control pills?

Birth control is available at many doctors and OBGYNs. Even if they do not have it in office, they will be able to write you a prescription. You may also check for planned parenthood or public health clinics in your area. Most public health clinics will base the price of the pills on your income if you are uninsured. This may even be free in some situations.

If you started birth control pills for the first time can your first period be shorter or lighter than usual?

On hormonal birth control you no longer menstruate.

They pill works by stopping your menstrual cycle to prevent ovulation, no ovulation means no menstruation. The bleeding you experience on the pill is a withdrawal bleed caused by the drop in synthetic hormones when going from active to inactive pills.

It takes time for your body to adjust to this change so irregular bleeding is normal for the first three months on any new form of hormonal birth control. Withdrawal bleeds are also lighter than menstrual bleeds as the pill also prevents uterine lining build-up.

What happens if you overdose on birth control?

I have only known one person who overdosed on birth control pills. When my friend OD on BCP she kept throwing up and had severe abdominal pains and was bleeding heavily for several days.

She was bleeding heavily and experiencing pains and sickness because she took way too many BCP and due to all the hormones her body brought on a "forced" period which was very painful for her.

What will happen if you take someone else's birth control pill?

You should never take a medication that is someone else's--especially if you don't know how it works. Birth control is a hormonal medication that regulates a woman's menstrual cycle, prevents ovulation, and/or prevents implantation of a fertilized egg. It has to be taken on a daily basis in order for it to work properly. If it's taken by someone who has other medical problems, or who is on other medications, it can be very dangerous. If you want to know more about birth control, talk to your doctor and get some for yourself.

What should you do if you were going to skip your period and you took the first pill of a new pack but then changed your mind?

There is no harm in this whatsoever. So you took 22 active pills in a row. Now you can take seven (or six, or five, etc.) placebo pills, have a withdrawal bleed, and then start your new pack. There is no increased risk of pregnancy from taking 22 active pills instead of 21. Just remember to never go more than seven days without an active pill.

How do you know whether or not a condom broke?

You may see sperm around your vagina or see sperm leaking from the condom or see a ripped condom.

What will happen to an egg if it is released 3 days before beginning birth control pills and would there still be a risk of pregnancy?

Yes, if you had sex during those three days, you should ask your doctor though. *you could get pregnant, but if the levels of your birth control pills are high enough, it could prevent implantation in the uterus, and you would essentially miscarry

What is wrong if you've been off birth control for two months and you were always regular before but this month you had your period twice?

I had this problem myself, but the second period was accompanied by a really bad pain in my side. I went to a doctor and found out that I was pregnant in my tube(ectopic). If you are experiencing severe pains you should see a doctor. Otherwise, it my be that your body is trying to get back into it's regular cycle. Going off (and starting) the pills always puts your body through a lot of changes... many people have irregular periods for a while (or miss a couple) after stopping the pill... but its always good to ask your doctor! == Answer== The above answer is correct This can be caused by the changing of hormones in the body and should be nothing to worry about. Unless it continues to occur... to be on the safe side consult your GYN.......

What is considered a birth control mini-pill and how does it differ from other birth control pills?

the mini pill only contains progestin, while the other pills contain both estrogen and progestin.

A popular mini pill brand is Micronor. Women with high blood pressure or predisposition to heart attacks and the like are usually prescribed the mini pill. Another major difference between POPs and Combination Pills is that the mini pill does not include a week of placebo pills; each mini pill contains the same dosage of progestin and must be taken continuously around the same time each day. If you are even three hours late taking the mini pill, your chances for pregnancy are drastically increased. In cases like that, it is recommended you use a back-up method in addition to continuing your pill regimin for at least 5 days. Taking combination pills at EXACTLY the same time each day is not as crucial.
