Is it good to consume a protein shake every day?

Yes they are healthy for you, they allow to help put on muscle and repair muscles when your not working out and sleeping, having to much will make you urine it out, it does not damage kidneys, there are no known side effects. What they do is, make your viens wider allowing more blood to pump through which burns calories. It is 50% as effective as diet and excersise alone.

---------

The above is more dangerously misleading than it is false.

Carbs and proteins, when not needed, are stored in the body as fat. Proteins, unlike carbs and lipids, contain nitrogen; this must be cleared out before they can be turned into fat, and that job falls to the kidneys. Excess protein, as in the case of most people who eat relatively well and still (for whatever crazy reason) drink protein shakes, puts a huge burden on the kidneys - expect to be on dialysis by age 30 or so.

Protein shakes will do absolutely nothing for you if you do not exercise, and you can add weight gain to the list of bad stuff (which already includes kidney failure) if you chug them.
Protein shake aren't bad in anyway if they are used only to supplement your daily protein intake. Protein is simply used to build and repair muscle after intense exercise, along with many other important biological processes.

Normal weight = 18.5-24.9 . . . your bmi is 21.5, girl! don't listen to what anybody says, do you think you're overweight? Many people come in very different sizes, structures, and shapes! if you feel fat, why not try eating healthily and excercising for 30 minutes at least 3 times a week : ) ^v^ . . . be happy with who you are!

I deleted the comment above because that girl was just plain nonsense!

What are the problems using BMI to calculate obesity?

The BMI does not take into account body composition at all with its measurement. For example, a person with is 5 feet tall and weighs 110 pounds has a BMI of around 21. -- These are the measurements for my 8-year old daughter. Now, I also have a sister-in-law who is 5 feet 1 inch tall, she is a serious bodybuilder, and she weighs 125 pounds, making her BMI over 23. My sister-in-law is DEFINITELY NOT "fatter" than my 8 year old girl, yet her BMI is higher than my daughter.

What is the bmi for a 24 yr old female 5'4 weighing 113 pounds?

Does doing push-ups all day burn muscle mass?

No, you lose muscle mass by over exercising without eating enough or by not eating enough to keep up your muscularity. Doing push ups all day can mess some stuff up, though, as you are stressing them out excessively. Building muscle is literally tearing your muslces, which is geneally good, as your food repairs the tears, making them bigger, stronger, more toned, and more durable. It is much better to max your self out and push for another 5 to 10 reps once or maybe twice a day, and rest or exercise something else the next day, giving your pecs a rest so that you can continue the routine the next day, and increase it as much as you can handle in a week or so. Do your self a favor and take it a little more easy if you continually work your chest muscles over the entire day, as doing 5-15 fast ones is better than trying to do 50 full nose touchers 10 times a day. Trust me, I know, for I am currently doing 2 sets of 60 full ones, plus 150 full reps on each arm by itself with 15 pound bar bells, all within about 1-2 hours, drinking a glass or two between sets. Water is the best choice by the way for a thirst quencher to hydrate your body for exercise.

How many calories should a 50 year old woman have a day?

Your age and gender have nothing to do with your recommended caloric intake. There is no general answer to this question. What is the ideal weight for a5foot7inch tall woman?

It depends, because there's no such thing as an average woman - she might have a petite , medium or large frame which will affect her weight or take part in a sport that leads to the build up of muscle mass, increasing weight. So long as she's fit and happy, weight is unimportant.

How do you use the body mass index to determine your fat?

Measuring your body mass cannot directly determine your overall body fat. BMI, or Body Mass Index, is designed to determine a healthy weight of a person based on their overall height, age and gender. The reason this index cannot determine your precise body fat is that individuals as the same height with the same BMI may have different body types resulting in the same weight. Overall BMI assists with determining a healthy weight but cannot actually measure you in muscle or fat.

What is an average BMI of a 3-year-old?

* During the toddler years (1 to 3 years of age) the average child should gain 4-6lbs a year. By 30 months the average toddler weighs about 28lbs. * An "average" 3 year old boy would weigh approximately 31 lbs (about 14 kg). However, this is the child who would weigh in exactly at "average," or on the 50th percentile. A "normal" child of this age could weigh anywhere from as little as 24lbs (11 kg) or as much as 39 lbs (17.5 kg) and still be considered healthy (depending on height, prior weights, etc.)

* Weight is related to height and body composition. For in-depth information about weight in relation to height, and to see the distribution of weights and heights of children at various ages, please see the page link, further down this page, listed under "Related Questions."

What is body mass composition?

There are 3 major ways to assess body composition. The first is taking BMI, which compares height to body weight. It's not the most accurate way to assess physical health because some individuals weigh more because of more lean body mass, which is better than carrying extra weight from fat. The other method(s) determine actual fat percentage and provide risks for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and and other health related issues. This includes weight scales that use inductance and mechanical means of attaining body fat percentage. Lastly, taking body measurements such as hip to waist rations help determine ones level of risk for cardiovascular disease. Having a larger waist and abdomen indicates higher risk. In general, regardless size, lower amounts of body fat, especially in the mid sections, can indicate less risk for cardiorespiratory and metabolic disorders
