1,200 Questions

When was The Ladakh Scouts created?

The Ladakh Scouts was created in 1963.

Are the girls at my school really as mean as they seem to be?

Depends.

If they treat you in a slightly offhandish mean way, then they are probably just showing off or preening to their friends.

If they actually come up to you and remark things like "you fat cow" or "you're ugly" sort of comments, then yes they're bitchy, but also desperate for having attention focused around them.

also, us girls have some weird seventh sense in my opinion, when we just dont like that person and they look bitchy. :D no big deal, the easiest way is to treat them like normal human beings and that way, whatever they do will look completely stupid and out of call. Maybe they don´t realize how mean they´re being, but that doesn´t make it feel any better when they treat you badly.

Be true to yourself no matter what, and be loyal to the friends who care about you.

Take advantage of this time in your life by pursuing the activities that mean something to you, sports, art, music, and college prep. These opportunities are harder to come by once you are in the adult world.

What should you bring to Boy Scout camp?

You Troop and/or the camp should be able to give you a more complete list. Some of it will depend on where and when you will be camping, what facilities are at the camp and what activities you will be doing.

Personal effects like toothpaste, a tooth brush, a comb or brush, soap and shampoo are always needed. A roll of toilette paper, even if they say there are facilities to use, is always worth the weight and space no matter what (A good tip is to take a half used roll off the spool at home and use it for back packing and space is more needed).

You should have enough changes of clothing.

Rain gear.

Flashlight and extra batteries

Bug spray.

Generally food is provided but you may need a cup or plate and utensils - check with the camp or troop.

Sleeping bag and pillow.

A first aid kit should be available complete with treatment for sunburn, Tylenol and or Motrin, allergy meds.

Any prescription meds you take.

Tents are usually provided but you should make sure.

Bathing suit if there will be water activities.

The merit badge books for the badges you will be working on would be good.

Cards/ books to read/ games to play in the down time.

Do you have to swim in Boy Scouts?

Not necessarily. There is a swimming merit badge but it is not required. One of the requirements for Eagle Rank is to earn either the Swimming, Hiking, or Cycling Merit Badges. If a Scout can't or doesn't want to swim, he can opt for one of the others.

Also keep in mind that if a Scout cannot complete any of those merit badges due to a disability, he may apply for an alternate requirement. This is true for any of the Eagle Requirements.

Why were the boy and Girl Scouts founded?

Baden Powell specifically wrote his books because he found his new military recruits were clueless about how to function in the outdoors (hence the name "scouts" - it refers to military scouts).

Several scouting movements were actually established in the late 1800's to early 1900's. The unifying themes are that they looked to stimulate an interest and comfort in outdoors activities, promote good moral values, and give children wholesome activities with which to occupy themselves.

Girl Scouts and Girl Guides were founded because girls also wanted to be Scouts. Baden Powell felt that girls should have their own organization, so he chose the name "Girl Guides" and thought that an organization for girls should be run by women so he asked his sister, Agnes Baden-Powell, to help and, in 1910, the Girl Guide movement was formally founded.

Is there an athlete merit badge?

No, but there is a sports merit badge

Why do we need the Boy Scouts?

Scouting teaches a lot of things that are difficult to find in other programs. Every scout is encouraged to take leadership rolls, not just a few captains. They are taught morals, outdoorsmanship and what to do in emergencies.

Scouts are more likely to:

- graduate from high school, college and graduate school

- start or lead a business

- be class president and captains of sports teams.

- hold elected office

- serve in the military

- attend one of the military academies

- attend church, espouse moral behavior and enter the clergy

- actively enjoy and appreciate the outdoors

- marry and be happy in their marriage

- be anastronaut

.... just to name a few things.

Yes. Several rules the first of which is "Be prepared", obviously he was not.

The last line of the oath for BSA is "To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight" so there may be another violation there depending on one's interpretation of the word morals.

What girl scout badges do you transport from junoir to cadette?

Normally, you transfer the ones that you don't earn, like the Flag, the troop numbers, the Brownie Wings, and any special patches you bought at the store.

(You don't have to take these off if you don't want to. You can buy new ones at the store.)

And don't forget the Bronze award pin if you earned your Bronze award.

It all usually depends on what you want on your vest. If you want your favorite patch, say, the Theater patch, on your vest/sash, go for it. But you can't earn badges as a cadette. You earn IP's, but you probably already knew that.

There are several merit badge requirements and leadership requirements, but the hardest part of the award is the service project because you have to take the leadership role and organize it.
