What if your parakeets cere is purple?
If its bright purple, its most likely a male. However if it is a light purple, it may be a female. Although keep in mind that if your keet is under a year old, then its hard to tell. It may very well be male or female... in which case only time will tell.
Yes, just like people and animals get tired of running.
How can I make an ant moat for my hummingbird feeder?
Drill a hole slightly bigger than the hang wire through an old spray can lid. Slide the lid onto the wire. Seal the gap between the hole and the wire with silicone or hot glue. Pour some water in the cap. Do not use oil, because some small birds drink from ant moats. The best way to use an ant moat is to put the cap on upside down, then coat the inside of the cap with a product called Tanglefoot, which is available at nurseries and maybe Wal-Mart type stores. Something else that's sticky but won't dry out would also work.
What is a behavioral adaptation of a baby bird in nest?
Dangerous for the bird. The parents will usually recognize the bird as a stranger and remove it. They may also detect your scent and reject the chick for that reason. Call animal control in your area (may be the police or sheriffs) and ask them if they know the number of the local organization that volunteers for bird rescue. Your veternarian will have this information also. Call them and they'll tell you exactly what to do.
Can a red factor canary breed with dominant white?
A red factor canary CAN breed with a dominant white, they are all the same species. The question is whether you should ALLOW them to breed. The red factor is bred specifically for it's color-red. The dominant white is white and YELLOW, if you breed to another yellow, you will get yellow and white chicks. Therefore if you breed a dominant white to a red factor half the chick would be a yellow/red cross which would dilute the red factor and produce inferior colored chicks. The white birds produced from this cross would theoretically carry a red factor and could be crossed with other red factor birds, but I am unsure of the quality of red that these birds would produce. So, if your white and red birds did mate, they would produce healthy, "normal" chick but the red would be diluted, therefore this cross is not recommended. However, a white canary lacks the lipochrome (which gives the bird a yellow or red hue) and can be housed with red factors and eat red factor food without affecting their color (except for the small yellow spot on Dominant white's wings).
Is it traumatic for birds to change cages?
it can depend on the bird. you could just swap cages but the bird could become very stressed and not eat/sleep properly. it's best to gradually change the cages.
let the bird have both cages. sleeping in the old one at night. and having the new one sit next to it. during the day allow the bird to travel between both cages at it's leisure so it gets used to the new one.
when it seems ok with the new one place it in that cage at night but keep the old one beside it. when it seems happy with the change you should be find to remove the ld one entirely.
i really hope this helps. just be sure that your bird stays happy and eats enough and it should be fine.
The brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) was named West Virginia's state fish, following a poll of sportsmen which favored the fish in 1973.
This is not an answer, but a question. I have watched robins searching for prey in the grass, and some of them tend to lean their head to the right, while others lean their head to the left.
Does that mean that robins are left/right (eyed, handed, brained)?
I wish a study could be done to determine this.
I know that a robin's right eye can aid in navigation (the earth's magnetic field), but does this translate to searching for prey?
I've done hours of looking and absolutely notice that some robins seem to be one sided or the other when cocking their head to find that special snack.
Any scientific findings or opinions?
Does the parakeet have to sit on the egg for it to hatch?
you can't really do anything about it. if the egg dies the egg dies. its just nature. unless you buy a brooder to keep the eggs in. but trust me just leave the eggs alone and let nature do the rest.
What causes parakeets to suddenly die?
In order to answer this question properly one needs to know more specifics about the particular bird. In a young bird, perhaps disease brought home from a pet shop could be a culprit. If the bird is a bit older it could be related to diet. Parakeets fed only seeds develop are susceptible to developing tumors and those often are the cause of death in a bird around the age of two. Perhaps the use of non-stick pots and pans in the kitchen, candles, cleaning agents, sprays could all be suspect. A gas leak of some kind possibly.
Birds seldom die suddenly, in the wild a sick bird will be targeted by predators or by the flock, so birds will hide signs of illness until it is to late.
When will your budgies start mating?
Budgies living in captivity may reproduce at any time of the year, if they are living in the same cage. Make sure to place a nesting box inside the cage, and DO NOT touch the eggs once they are laid. Parakeet eggs have a waxy coat on the shells which protects the chick from parasites.
Parrots, like other birds which can fly, have wings which are of such a shape that air flows faster over the top of the wing than underneath it, and causing greater pressure below the wings than above. This pressure difference enables "lift".
The upper surface of a parrot's wing is raised while the lower surface is hollow. Essentially, this means that air travelling over the top of the wing does so at a faster rate than the bottom. This also gives the effect of "lift".
Then there is the makeup of parrots' wings, which have both primary and secondary feathers. The primary feathers are the ones on the outside, which move back and forth to create thrust. The secondary feathers are the inner feathers, which split the air between outer and inner parts and provide the lift.
Do lovebirds sit on eggs to hatch?
Sometimes lovebirds will not lay eggs. However, some lovebirds will lay multiple eggs in their lifetimes. There is no way to tell if a lovebird will lay eggs until you have observed her.
How do you take care of a baby bird egg?
First you get a heat lamp, than you put the eggs in a nest or tissue, then you turn them every 1 or 2 hours. When they hatch don't take them out side yet. First you wait until their feathers are strong and dry. Then after 3 weeks you take them out and throw them up, and they fly. :)
Can a parakeet die of being scared?
Well, It depends on how scared it is. If it's really scared, It can have a heart attack. It can also have an heart attack by loud noise. Parakeets can die as a result of a heart attack. So technically, Yes, It can die of being scared. So don't be to harsh on it if it's scared of you or anything else. Good Luck, Ta'Niya Hayes.
