Parakeets are birds. They do not get pregnant, as reproduction is done through the laying of eggs. The eggs take about three weeks to form properly in the body, but this is not called "pregnancy". They look the same when they are laying eggs as when they aren't. In other words, birds don't "hold" their eggs inside their bodies and show a big belly to indicate that eggs are on the way. The egg shell is the last thing that develops right before the egg is laid, therefore, a hen doesn't "show" in the sense that human women "show" when they are pregnant.

Birds which are getting close to laying an egg become more lively, excitable and playful, and they may be more aggressive and territorial. If they have a nesting box, they will spend a lot more time in the box, preparing it for nesting, and possibly being very protective of that area. If there is a male, he may start feeding the female.

Female birds to not get pregnant. They lay fertilized eggs if they have spent enough time with a male bird. If you don't want baby birds, take away the eggs. If you want baby birds, let the female incubate them by keeping them warm.

From the time the new chicks leave the shell they should be given a chick starter food. This is available either in medicated or un-medicated form. The chick starter is small pre-ground and easily digestible. At about 2 months a small amount of chick grower can be added and increased each day until the birds are off the chick starter and eating only the grower. At about 4 months and close to laying the hens should be given layer mash/pellets to prepare them for egg production. They can stay of the layer feed for the rest of their lives unless the extra cost of layer is prohibative (about $2.00 per 80lbs). Hens will survive quite well on chicken scratch but during the prime egg years they need the extra calcium and proteins in the layer feed.

If they are being hand-reared, a chick from the egg will need to be fed every 60-90 minutes for around 16 hours per day. Once the chick is a few days old (depending on species), feeding frequency can be extended to every 2 hours. Quantity is at least as important as frequency - they are easily over-fed. Dehydration, rather than starvation is also a major problem with people unused to hand-rearing birds.

Actually the concrete are the best bc if u get the right size they wear down the nails when ever the bird perches so they dont become daggers

I have a large aivery with four parakeets, two love birds and a cockateil. They all get along fine.

It varies greatly on the person and type of parrot. Lets go with big parrots. If you're a person who doesn't mind cleaning a cage weekly, changing the bottom daily, preparing fresh fruits and veggies for your pet daily, screaming and yelling, feathers all over, fruits and veggies stuck on walls from cleaning, daily interactions that need to last a few hours, $50.00 or more for toys (you need several of these and big birds can destroy them quite easily), vet bills, and other factors, than big parrots may be the pet for you. If you're experienced, oh, and did I mention the cost of buying a big parrot? $2,000 is probably minimum for a minimum grade bird.

If the parrot is something small, say small conures, budgies, cockatiels, or other birds, than the factors are exactly the same! Except maybe the toys are less expensive.

Parrots are a joy if you've done your research very well and know exactly what to do. I would advise you to read a lot about our wonderful feathered friends. If you're interested in acquiring these birds and literally sharing your life with them (budgies and cockatiels live up to 20 years on average; bigger parrots go up to fifty and more).
