Care of Mice and Rats

Mice smell much more than rats. They smell if you don't clean their cage every few days! The animals themselves don't usually smell as they clean themselves. Also, you shouldn't do this to mice, but you can give rats bathes, but you can only give them one about once every month. Pet Stores also sell spray that you can apply to mice and/or rats that will help the smell.The oil in their fur will come off if you do.

if it doesnt mined wich mine LOVED give it a bath its so cute just put them in a little bit of water (laundry sink) (water level should be so it can just stand but swim or they will drown:o) they love to swim and u can buy shampoo at any good pet store. this si also a good way to look ath their skin wen u dry them this is how mine died because after her bath as i wz drying her i found red spots on her (cancer)

if this all fails maybe try and keep them out of cage this will make them more social and the cage wont stink to much

Not really they are almost blind. Everything else is keen except the eyes. they use established runways so they can move very quickly and not rely on the eyes.

The tail serves many functions.

First, it helps regulate body temperature.

Second, it helps stabilize balance, which helps rats climb.

Third, the tail provides a defense mechanism. The tail can be torn off in a process known as degloving; this is particularly handy if a predator captures the rat by the tail. The tail will pull off, allowing the rat a chance to escape. However, this is an injury (meaning it is painful for the rat) and can lead to infection. Degloving is one reason why you should NEVER pick your rat up by the tail!

Male rats can be far larger then females. Female rats range from around 250 grams to 450 grams. Males range from around 400 grams to 700 grams.
