Becuase the shell is a vital organ of the turtle, something it does not grow out of. The pealing is like when us humans grow sometimes our skin peels a little. That's just it growing with us, just as the shell grows with the trurtle.

I don't think it's possible. But there is a frog species that looks like a turtle, it's a Turtle Frog. If it is possible for a turtle to be with a frog, then what in the world are they doing?!?! That is just weird. Your curious question is still not answered!

Seaturtles don't have any characteristic ways of aging such as dental records or number of scute; therefore they can't be aged. Turtles grow at a varying rate depending on the individual and their diet. So you may have a turtle that is 60 cm in shell length and depending on the diet and the individual it may be say 40 years or it may be 25! Your guess is as good as mine. Turtles in captivity have been known to grow at a much quicker rate than turtles in the wild and these are the only turtles that can be known for sure their true age. Another interesting fact about seaturtle growth rate is that the Pacific seaturtles grow at a slower growth rate than the Atlantic turtles of the same species. To correctly gauge the age of a majestic seaturtle, you must capture it and cut it in half so you can count the rings on the inside of the shell.

The difference between a female snapping turtle and a male snapping turtle is the difference in their tales. Each snapping turtle has a small cirlce looking shape on theie tale. If it is a female snapping turtle, it's circle will be closer to the shell (or the butt) an if it is a male snapping turtle, the circle will not neccesarily be at the end of the tail, but it is certainly not near the shell (or butt). With most snapping turtles, it should be obvious, but with some, it is hard to tell, especially if their newborns (a week old or younger).

I am use to eastern box turtles ...... small white eggs..... looks like a small birds egg but the shell is not as hard, kind of hard like leather... about 3/4 of a inch... Martin 5-21-09

A scute is what makes a turtles shell look quilted. About once a year each individual scute sheds, revealing a new one under neath and also leaves a layer on the new one. If you count the layers on a scute then you can tell about how old the turtle is. Example. 2 layers = 2 years old, 10 layers = 10 years old. If the turtle has no layers then the turtle is less than a year old.

No because their necks could get so stuffed up and wont be able to tuck their heads in their shells

Green sea turtles are called such due to the chlorophyll in their diet from eating seaweed, which turns their fat layer very green. They also have a love for squid, octopus, and really seem to enjoy eating jellyfish. The scutes (plates) on their backs are brown with varying shades of golds and occasionally green in a sunburst pattern. The shells are made of keratin and grows with the animals. Green turtles are not endangered every where. In Hawaii the population has made such a wonderful comeback it has been delisted to threatened. Mating in Hawaiian waters can be in very deep waters and can last for hours.

you shld first check near any wet areas around your yard. if you dont find her there then you should set up a small pond with her favourite food as a lure, put the food to float in the small pond trap and hopefully the turtle will try to catch the food and fdall in hten you have your turtle

no pet co does not sell baby turtles sorry i just went there for a baby turtle and they said that they do not have them and that they used to but now it is not legal to sell baby turtles in the USA anymore.

most turtles will eat small fish and minnows, tortoises eat mostly vegatables like lettuce and tomatoes. i used to have many pet turtles and once i had a baby turtle caught in the wild and it wouldn't eat pet store food so i caught minnows and he seemed to love them...

Its been said that eating them may be dangerous because they feed on poisonous plants and mushrooms. I still bet there a recipe out there for it.

in a survival situation anything gos! but box turtles are cool so I wouldn't eat one! I hear also there's a tribes off places that will find turtles and keep them as a last resort there a hardier creature they survive famished quite well.

One thing about tomatoes: the tomatoes themselves are a big favorite of turtles, but the tomato PLANT, being closely related to nightshade, is poisonous. So, just to be safe, don't grow the tomato plants in your turtle habitat because you don't want them nibbling on the leaves and stems.
