Is there any turtle sickness?

Yes. Turtles have been known to carry Salmonella. They should be handled appropriately. Wash your hands thoroughly after handling a turtle or its habitat. Small children should not be permitted to handle them due to the concern. They might not understand what they should do and could put their hands in their mouth or touch other objects before cleaning their hands. The U.S. banned the sale of turtles under 4 inches because of the problem. See Related Links.

Turtles should not be kept in an "Aquarium". They should be housed in a "Vivarium". A Vivarium is usually an aquarium set up specifically for an Amphibian . A Vivarium should be part water to a depth to suit the size and species of Turtle/ Amphibian being kept and part dry, with plant life and a place where the animal can warm up and dry if it wishes to under some kind of heating element or light globe.

Do turtle babies have teeth?

No, they have a beak.

Their jaws however have horned ridges, which have basically the same function as teeth! Meat-eating turtles have sharp ridges whereas plant-eating have more of a serrated design.

Can small frogs and small turtles live together?

actually, they can. have at least one place or arch where the small one can hide. they will share the rock if its big enough but it is nice to have each turtle have its own space. if you see your big turtle chasing the little one, see if its male. (you can tell if the claws are bigger and the tail is fatter) if it is, put feeder fish in the tank, large ones and small ones. the large ones will keep the big turtle busy. and the small ones will be for the smaller turtle so he can learn to eat meat from the larger one. i have and have had large turtles and small turtles in the same tank. the get along fine.

Hope i could help.

What do adult snapping turtles eat?

They will eat anything that comes close enough to their mouth to snap at, including some things that might not be too good for them to eat.

In the wild they eat fish, birds, small mammals, insects, lizards, frogs/toads, plants, and just about anything else that gets too close.

In captivity, feed them turtle pellets from the pet store. This will give the turtle all the nutrients they need. For an occasional treat throw in crickets, meal worms, bloodworms, nightcrawlers, or small fish. I wouldn't feed them goldfish because they add a chemical at the fish farm to help the goldfish shine, and I doubt that it's good for the turtle to eat.

Do you need a lamp for a pet turtle?

I would say yes, unless they were to have a home outside. Box turtles will need at least twelve hours of daylight, and a lamp would ensure this if you were otherwise unable to provide those twelve hours. A turtle may stop eating if this light is not provided.

What bedding do you put in a turtle cage?

Because of the ferrets natural instinct for burrowing, soft bedding material is recommended that they can get underneath or cover themselves for sleeping. Bedding you can purchase for ferrets are sleep sacks and they particularly like hammocks

Bedding for ferrets - do not use wood chips, straw, etc. Ferrets like soft materials - you can use t-shirt type material, flannel type material - something that is easily laundered - it is suggested to launder bedding about twice a week to reduce ferret odors. Avoid bedding material with a loose weave - ferrets nails sometimes split when they get too long and tend to hang on loose threads (they need to be trimmed every 2- 3 weeks). I have read where ferrets nails have hung on threads with the owner unaware, and the ferret wrapped the thread around its leg cutting off circulation that resulted in amputation.

Ferrets love to sleep in anything soft and warm such as cat beds, old clothes, blankets, towels etc. Avoid typical small animal bedding such as wood chips.

Where to release pet turtle?

Captive turtles should not be released into the wild. Not only are they unaccustomed to finding food for themselves, they can also get sick from being exposed to germs that wild turtles carry, or, they can spread their own germs to the wild turtles, and kill off the wild population.

Try putting an ad in the paper, or in local pet shops, advertising that your turtle is up for adoption. You can also try contacting local zoos; some of them have petting zoos or zoo classes for children which they need turtles for.

Can turtle live in fish tank?

  • Yes, although it isn't much space for them.
  • Just make sure you have a place for it to rest its legs n breath at the top of the rank

your turtle may also eat the fish. If the fish are bigger, you need to make sure they wont attack your turtle (if it is a lot smaller).

What happens when a turtle shell turns red?

The name "green turtle" actually comes from the color of the fat.

The fat is green due to the turtles' diet; they eat mostly sea grasses (such as turtle grass and manatee grass), and algae that commonly grow in lagoons. Their external colors change with age; colors on the turtles include various shades of black (prominent in hatchlings), brown, olive, and yellow.

What does a snapping turtle eat?

Baby snappers eat bugs, small fish, worms, lettuce, or just about anything they can fit in their mouths, so be careful where you keep them!

Well I had a baby snapping turtle and if you found him in a habitat then you should truly leave him if you care for him, but if you found him in a strange place alone then you should contact your local wildlife sanctuary they may take him. They usually eat the things above but if yours does not seem to eat like mine get him to the sanctuary FAST! Or force feed him because mine would not eat and it died the next day.

Do you keep light on during turtle hibernation?

Yes. They really like the sunlight, so its not a bad idea to take a turtle outside for a bit. The temperature in a box turtle's cage needs to be between 75 and 85 degrees. They also need a source of light for at least 14 hours during the day, and you can turn it off for the night.
