No, a cat's bite is not poison. However, if you do receive a cat bite and the teeth have broken the skin, it is usually a good idea to visit your local doctor just to be on the safe side. Usually though, a healthy and fully vaccinated house cat is unlikely to be carrying anything dangerous to a human.
There is no illness that causes a cat to purr. Cats purr when they are happy, content, and socialized. This includes non domesticated cats.
There are some who believe food coloring is problematic for cats and people. I would think if you used only a little it would be safe. Certainly if you did it only a few times to test and see if it works you'd be okay. But, if you're concerned, at Whole Foods they sell a couple of varieties of organic food colorings. See link below for Chefmaster food coloring.
Why do cats hyperventilate in the car?
they feel trapped because cats were originally from Egypt. Traders stole cats to kill off the mice on their both. so the cats have a fear of riding in closed off vehicles... i think
Is standing water in the cat bowl harmful when slime forms in the bottom?
Yes. Change your cat's water daily unless you have an automatic aerator or fountain. Algae, even if harmless, may discourage cats from drinking.
Start to look for a new cat. Read Matthew Inman's How To Tell If Your Cat Is Plotting To Kill You if you like funny comics. (Swear alert!) DO NOT BUY YOUR NEW CAT UNTIL AFTER YOUR CAT IS PUT DOWN. You'll need a bit to mourn your dead cat. If you can, get him stuffed if it won't make you sadder. When you have the new cat, (which should not be right after your cat dies) it'll be easier to let the death go. THIS CAT IS NOT A REPLACEMENT CAT. You can't replace a pet, but you can always get a new cat. If you bought a new cat, it can sit on your bed. It won't have the same personality, but at least you can have a nice cat again!
What is up if a cat purrs heavily?
Well, it depends on whether she has always purred "heavily", or if this is a new or different behavior.
Believe it or not, sometimes excessive purring can actually be a signal that something is wrong with kitty! Yep- kitty's purring is not only soothing to us humans, but to him or her as well. When some cats are in pain, are sick, or hurt (or even dying), they may begin to exhibit excessive purring (which can also sometimes be coupled with another indicator that something is wrong- excessive grooming). The excessive purring and/or grooming is suggested to be a form of self-soothing. Although the exact mechanism of purring remains a bit of a mystery, it is thought to produce endorphins (which are the body's "natural pain killers").
But don't be alarmed- if your cat has always been a heavy-purring machine (like one of my cats is), then there should be no cause for concern- he/she just happens to have a heavy purr!
*Always keep this in mind: the mostimportant factor in determining whether it's time to take motor-boat kitty to the vet is change.
I can't say it enough- change in diet, behavior, mood, activity, energy, urine/poop...etc etc- change is usually the first sign that something is wrong.
What health problems do Siamese cats have?
They don't have any health problems. Only that their nose and eyes sometimes get black hard chunks in them but it is easily to come out.
What does it mean when your cat pi's all over your house?
all your cat is doing is telling u whats his so he obviously owns your house
Try to get the pet diapers. The pets like them a lot and so do dads.
What does it mean when your kitten chews or gently bites your finger arm flesh in general?
It's doing the same thing as little children do when they explore things with their mouths, only kittens, and puppies too, are carnivores, so they tend to be a little more nippy and use their teeth too. This is not a problem, but once they stop using it for exploration and start using it for play, then it would be better to give them something that they can bite on that is not your hands. The best toys for cats are ones you can control from a distance and have them chase, pounce, and attack. Remember that cats are predators. In fact, Animal Planet in their show, the Most Extreme, rated the house cat at the top of the list of killers, because they kill over a hundred different species of animals, from insects to reptiles, birds, and small mammals. So let them practice hunting, anything but your fingers. BTW-Dogs are predators too, but the kill instinct has been bred out of them. But for puppies as well, find things that they can play with other than nipping on your fingers. _________________ I would like to add that no instinct can ever be truly eliminated, hence why it is called an instinct.
Why do cats lick them self when you scratch their backs?
You are scratching a spot that feels good to them. You might also be scratching a spot that is hard for them to reach. Say if your cat has arthritis somewhere on their back end, they most likely can't reach their back.
How do you get your cat to stop ramming her head in the door when you leave the room?
Have her walk in front of you and leave the room before you do. Also, try to keep your door open, if that fails see if you can put a cat door installed on your door :] Hope this helps!
She may be doing this because the kitten smells different after spending a couple of days at the vet. My guess is that she will stop after about a week or so.
Keep in mind that cats can really hurt each other if they want to. So if you see them "fighting," but neither one ends up bleeding, they might just be playing. They might look mad -- hissing, with their ears back -- but if they really wanted to hurt each other, there would be blood. My cats get along great, but they still "fight" all the time. They look really angry, but they don't actually hurt each other. It's just a game they play.
Edited to add: since writing this answer, I have discovered that this is a well-documented behavioral problem. It's called "non-recognition aggression." It's when a cat comes home after being spayed or neutered, and the other cats in the household act like the cat is a total stranger. They may have vicious fights where they really do hurt each other. Usually, the problem resolves itself after awhile, but it could take months.
What are the natural enemies of the Canadian Hairless or Sphynx Cat?
Careless humans as this type of cat isrobust and enjoys the company of humans, other cats, and dogs.
You shouldn't. But if you feel your cat needs one take it to a vet immediately, and allow a licenced professional to decide and carry out the procedure.
What to do if cat vomits daily?
Vet. There are many reasons for this kind of behaviour and most of them are not beneficial to your cat. Unless properly diagnosed any treatment may be more detrimental than helpful. You may wish to keep them hydrated until they visit the vet.
Can a cat scream till he is dead?
A cat would only "scream," or yowl, if in severe pain. Cats don't actually "scream," as they don't have a larynx.
I suggest you don't try to actually find out IRL.
What is the fvrcpc vaccine for cats?
What Does FVRCPC Stand For? Cats are susceptible to many contagious diseases, most of which are caused by viruses. Fortunately, we have vaccines to prevent our feline friends from succumbing to several of the worst ones. A series of three FVRCPC injections (three weeks apart) is given to kittens. The vaccine series is usually started at six to eight weeks of age. It is then given as an annual booster for the remainder of the cat's life. There are four preventive agents in the FVRCPC vaccine. The following is an explanation of each of those agents. FVR Stands For Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis Rhinotracheitis is a severe upper respiratory infection caused by a feline type 1, herpes-virus. It is most severe in young kittens and older cats, and is one of the most serious upper respiratory diseases seen in the feline species. The virus is airborne and very contagious in susceptible animals. Cats with this infection are lethargic, and show signs of respiratory involvement with much sneezing and coughing. There is usually a discharge from the nostrils and the eyes, and a high temperature may be present. Some cats develop pneumonia and occasionally ulcerations in the eyes. Infested cats do not want to eat or drink because the nostrils are plugged and the throat is sore. Dehydration and weight loss are common. The disease is debilitating and chronic. Many cats require hospitalization, intravenous fluids and intensive care to help them get over the infection. Antibiotics are given to treat secondary bacterial infections. Some cats suffer permanent damage to the eyes and the respiratory system. Fortunately, the vaccine is an effective preventive agent. C Stands For Calicivirus Infection There are several strains of caliciviruses that affect the cat. They can cause a range of diseases, from a mild almost asymptomatic infection, to life-threatening pneumonia. Most cases show only evidence of problems in the mouth, nasal passages and the conjunctiva (mucus membranes) of the eyes. Early signs are loss of appetite, elevated temperature and lethargy. Later, sneezing, oral ulcers and discharge from the eyes are seen. The course of the disease in uncomplicated cases is short, and recovery may be expected in seven to ten days. Some of the more virulent strains can cause severe symptoms. They may cause rapid death in young kittens and older cats. The disease is transmitted by direct contact with an infected cat or object (bowl, cage, brush, blanket, etc.) that harbors the virus. The virus can survive eight to ten days in the environment. Carrier cats can pass the virus into the environment for up to one year. P Stands For Panleukopenia Panleukopenia (also known as feline distemper and infectious feline enteritis) is a highly contagious disease characterized by a short course and high mortality rate. The disease is caused by a parvovirus similar to the parvovirus seen in dogs. It is very resistant and may remain infectious in the environment for up to a year. The disease is most severe in young kittens, but can affect cats of all ages. The first symptom is loss of appetite, followed by vomiting and diarrhea. A blood count usually shows a lowered number of white blood cells, a fact which helps in diagnosing the infection. Infected cats usually must be hospitalized with intensive treatment such as intravenous fluids, antibiotic and supportive care. Mortality rate may reach 90% in young kittens under six months, and may approach 50% in older animals. The vaccine is very effective in preventing the disease. C Stands For Chlamydia Psittaci Feline Chlamydia mainly causes conjunctivitis in the cat. Conjunctivitis may be defined as the inflammation of the delicate membranes or conjunctiva that cover the inner surface of the eyelids and over the white part of the eye (the sclera). Clinical signs normally develop within a few days after infection, beginning as a watery discharge from one or both eyes. Due to the discomfort, affected cats may hold their eyes partially closed. As the disease progresses, severe swelling and reddening of the conjunctiva may be seen and the discharge changes from watery to a thicker yellowish substance. There may also be very mild sneezing and nasal discharge in some cats with a mild fever resulting in lethargy. If left untreated, the conjunctivitis can often persist for six to eight weeks or longer and cats may continue to shed the organism for many months. Chlamydia organisms are very fragile and cannot survive for any period of time in the environment. Infection therefore typically occurs through direct contact and disease is more commonly seen where large groups of cats are kept together, such as multi-cat households, breeding catteries and shelters. Although cats of all ages can be infected, disease is seen most commonly seen in young kittens (5 - 12 weeks old) with persistent or recurrent infection. These vaccines do not always prevent infection, but are certainly helpful in preventing severe clinical disease.
Why do cats knead your blankets?
Because they sometimes revert to acting like kittens. Kittens often knead their mothers stomach while feeding. Presumably to stimulate the lactating glands of the mother cat. It may be comforting to adult cats to knead soft spongy materials, like blankets, thereby rekindling muscle and mental memories of feeding as a kitten. We have 3 adult cats and they all do this. Sometimes even on us!
Interpret this quote Those who play with cats should expect to be scratch?
It basically means that whatever/whoever you are around will have an effect on you. For example, if you socialize with a person known to backstab (as cats are known to scratch) then you should expect to be backstabbed (don't be surprised when the cat scratches you). Don't think that you're the exception.
No, not all ginger cats are male, some female cats are born with the red (ginger) colouring, but are not nearly as common as males.
