Cat Maintenance

Cat maintenance focuses on the hair and claws of the cat. Combing a cat’s fur is an excellent way of getting rid of hair balls and checking for fleas. One should provide a scratching post to keep the cat's nails trimmed.

How can you stop a cat from hissing?

Check to see what it wants. If the cat has food, clean water, a clean litterbox, and you've paid attention to it in a reasonable amount of time today, then maybe you should take it to the doctor.
However, I can't shut my cat up when it wants to go outside unless I don't care how much he begs until he gets tired an let it go.

Is friskies cat food better than fancy feast?

No.

All standard cat food seems to be about the same in nutritional value, as far as cats are concerned, so long as it is not made with fake Chinese protein. The important factor seems to be whether your cat likes it; and some cats are finicky about flavors.

Will your cat grow its fur back?

Are cats clean animals?

No, cats are very clean about their bodies. Most cats bathe (lick) their fur every day, several times a day. The main unclean thing about cats is their litter boxes, and that they walk in the litter box. Tracking litter through the house is annoying.

How should you clip your cats nails?

If your cat is an outdoor cat, it probably wears down its nails naturally. However, an indoor cat does not and so it may be caught on loops of your carpet or elsewhere. Behaviorally, it may scratch furniture, unless you have a scratching post or one of those corrugated scratching boxes. Clip the nails carefully, so that you do not cut into the "quick" which may bleed. Your vet can also do this for you. Our cats seem to need it done about every six months.

Does a newborn kitten have diseases?

Yes, kittens can carry diseases including but not limited to distemper and ringworm. You should be careful when introducing a new kitten to a household with other cats. Keep it isolated for a few days and have it checked by a vet ASAP. - preferably before bringing it home.

Does Every Newborn kitten have worms?

No, newborn kittens are not born with intestinal parasites, or worms. Cats pass eggs or larvae in their stool or milk, and therefore kittens can be infected by their mother while nursing. If the larvae passes through the kitten before maturing, the mother cat can also reinfest herself when grooming the kittens.

How should you prepare for a kitten?

There are so many things to do to prepare for a kitten! First of all: 1. Prepare yourself with supplies. There is nothing worse you can do than be unsupplied! Some supplies you will probably need are: - litter box - kitty litter - various toys --- jingling or crinkling balls, catnip, feathers on a stick, ect. - cat carrier [for easy vet-transportation] - cat toothpaste and shampoo for aiding hygeine [cats clean themselves, but sometimes they just downright need a good ol' bath!] although they scratch you to bits!!

- scratching post - plush cat bed - nail clippers [you will need to clip your cat's nails about once every two weeks unless [s]he is declawed.] - cat food - dry pellets, wet food in a can, and fresh water ALWAYS - cat food bowl & water bowl - collar & identification/rabies/other tags Also, be prepared with vet numbers, poison control numbers, anything you might need if your furry friend has an emergency! Not to mention, you should rid your house with everything that is poisonous to cats. [And keep cleaning items out of reach or in secured cabinets.] I also suggest you keep your kitten inside while s/he is still growing strength; especially if she is usually an indoor cat! Can you give your cat childrens benedryl?

erm.. i would say no. cats will probably metabolise drugs differently to humans and even if the benadryl had the same effects in cats as it does humans - you would have no way of telling what dose would be fine and what dose would be lethal, as cats are a completely different size to us, so the amount you give them would be different anyway. why on earth you would want to give your cat benadryl is beyond me - but i would definitely suggest staying away from giving your cat ANYTHING BUT what your vet tells you is ok to give. You may kill your cat. Lots.

i wish people would not speak when they have no idea what they are talking about. ask your veterinarian. yes, you can give your cat or dog benedryl. a compounding pharmacy will even flavor it like fish, chicken, etc. to make administering it easier.

When can your cat have a bath after neuter?

You shouldn't need to give your cat a bath at all. Cats are very good at keeping themselves clean. However, if you must bathe a cat you should wait at least one week, but preferably two unless a vet tells you otherwise. You need to allow him to completely heal and that includes on the inside where we cannot see. If you bathe him too early, while struggling he may rip open an incision below the skin surface.

How do you clean pee from leather?

This is a tough one. You can get the urine out of the cloth, but usually it seeps down inside the batting and foam. The best thing to do is get a carpet cleaner to come in and have them do some deep cleaning on your furniture. After it's dry use "Febreeze" spray to get any odors out. I own pets and even though my dogs and cat are very clean, I put blankets on my furniture and take them off when company comes. This also is a good preventative measure if one of friends is coming over with her kids and they have their shoes on or have an accident. It's easier to wash the blankets and cheaper!

How long can a newborn kitten survive without food?

a kitten should not be removed from it's mother under the age of 12 weeks. under, that age kittens get health and nutrients from their mother's rich, fatty milk. when, the queen is finally slapping away nursing kittens, is a good time to remove them. or else, the female may hurt them, as the kittens grow teeth, their sharp biters pierce the female's belly causing her to feel pain, and slap the away from her body. hope this helps! :)

What makes your cats scratch?

Are there any home remedies for fleas on cats?

Give your cat a bath using Dawn original blue dish soap. It will kill the fleas! I didn't believe it worked, but after trying several products from the vet and over-the-counter, I decided to try it. It worked better than anything else I tried!

Can you give pregnant cats a flea bath?

I have a cat that has been with us through my two pregnancies. It was fine for me and others I know. The concern with cats is toxoplasmosis, which can be transmitted to humans by handling cat feces (poop).

However, toxoplasmosis is a disease that only affects outdoor cats. If your cat is an indoors-only cat, you do not need to worry about toxoplasmosis.

Cat urine is not harmful to pregnant women or their unborn children. That is an old wives' tale. Cat urine contains ammonia, which means the fumes can be overpowering in a dirty litter box, but it will not harm you or your unborn child. The fact that it smells awful doesn't mean it'll hurt you.

Certain kinds of litters (specifically, the clay-based kind) contain toxins which are potentially harmful to humans. This is really only a problem when you pour the new litter in the box, or dig around in the box vigorously, as this releases a cloud of clay dust.

Instead of clay litter, try the crystal kind, such as Clear Choice Crystals or Fresh Magic. You can also try a corn-based litter like World's Best Cat Litter, but in my experience, the crystal litter is far superior. It lasts much longer, it controls odor better than any other litter, and there are no urine clumps to scoop. Instead, the urine is absorbed by the crystals, so you only have to scoop the poop. It also tracks much less (meaning, far less of it gets kicked out of the box onto the floor).

Always ask you doctor about preventative care regarding you and your unborn child.

Cat's move their tails to show their emotions or if they are annoyed, and also to assist them in landing after falling or jumping. The muscles that move a cat's tail are voluntary skeletal muscles, meaning they can be controlled at will.

How old does a cat have to be in order to be pregnant?

Cats can get pregnant as early as six months. It's not good for them to reproduce early.

Likewise, male cats can be viable early. Both sexes are prone to mature early when they suffered deprivation as kittens.

Don't dawdle about getting any cat neutered or spayed because of their age. Thinking the cat will be fixed before kittens arrive is how we have so many kittens without homes.
